Not shifting/stuck in 1st gear

assuming that the bike is on a rear stand since you're pulling a wheel, how would there be no impact to the transmission if the bike is in gear?

Uhh.. the assumption when I mentioned using an impact for removal is/was that the bike isn't in any gear whatsoever. There is absolutely no reason for it to be in a gear with an impact. That's the whole reason for using it.

I believe you maybe just assumed it would be or something? I incorrectly assumed it was just common knowledge that it doesn't need to be in gear.. I mean, I can rest my left hand on the tire to hold it still. I thought everyone knew that.

My apologies for not being more articulate with the details.

Appreciate the replies to date, some good advice.

I was doing the job solo while utilizing a breaker bar with bike in first gear. The compression was not sufficient to prevent the engine from turning over, so I then placed a piece of wood between the rear spokes and swingarm to further act as a backup, so I am not certain that a lot of torque was applied to the gearbox...however I cannot be certain.

The mechanic with whom I spoke asked me a very simple question, was the bike dropped? To which the answer is yes, as it was dropped on the left side in the garage last week. He advised that impacting the shift lever could have sheared a pin inside the gear selector box. This kind of goes back to Wilkersons input and check the pins. Would this prevent the transmission from moving even when the clutch is pulled?? Secondly, does anybody have experience in pulling this assembly?

It's a easy fix . Remove the cover and have a look if you have broken a pin remove the tumbler and replace it . I replaced mine with a pin from a bearing shop just measure it get the correct one and get it pressed in .
Make sure you put the tumbler back in the correct spot or your gear selection will be incorrect just take note of what position it is in before you remove it . Just umbolt the slave cylinder as well will make the job easier should not take you too long to do . I found you a vid on YouTube

This happened to me after letting my bike set for a few weeks. My bike was on a front and rear stand when I manually tried to move the gear lever, but similar results. I found setting the bike back on the ground and rolling it forward a few feet for the shift lever to engage the next gear. Easy fix, fingers crossed for you....
