It does if you want the updates and to incorporate new models. I let it lapse for a couple of months to see if it still functions and it does, but I have a subscription under my LLC.
 
The OpenFlash Tablet for the Ducati v4 bikes allows you to clear the oil service message. And it will soon allow you to reset the annual service message.
