Wasn’t really following the points or the series in detail. On the last pass, if both cars crashed and were unable to continue, does LH win the championship?

This explanation does a good job of the logic behind the entire race and the seemingly skewed finish. There were several blatant violations from MV & LH that went unpunished. It sure helped me get past the assumed dumbassery of race direction and the stewards.

His conclusion is that ultimately the race Director wanted to And the championship with the cars racing on track instead of under a red flag, and that all the teams had earlier in the year expressed a desire to do so whenever possible. But the race directors still did something wrong they could have restarted the race without only removing the five cars between Verstappen and Lewis, which would have restarted the race exactly how it was before the yellow flag and would have been the right thing to do, under the rules and standard operating procedures they had two choices they could either leave all the cars in place as they were before the yellow flag and let the race continue, or they could move all of the lapped cars out of the way and let the race end under a caution flag.

By only clearing the cars between Verstappen and Hamilton out of the way they took away the advantage that Hamilton had earned on track during regular racing and instead gave Verstappen the bigger advantage by allowing him to race one lap on completely fresh tires without the gap and the cars in between them that Hamilwood had built during regular racing.

I’m all for a let them race mentality but that is not the same as let’s remove the Ontrack advantage that Hamilton earned and then let them race.

The race stewards essentially negated the entire season and turn the championship in 201 lab side-by-side race with one guy on 50 lap all used tires and the other guy on fresh soft tires, giving a clear advantage to the guy with the fresh soft tires in a one lap race or a one lap championship in this case

The key is that they removed only the five cars between Verstappen and Hamilton and thereby reset the race without the gap that Hamilton had her, when they should have restarted the race with all the cars in the same place that they were before the yellow flag if they wanted to end the championship racing instead of under caution

Off, off topic - does anyone else remember Hamilton being knighted last year?
What’s with the redo again a couple weeks ago?

Mandela effect or what

Anyone as impressed as me with how Lewis Hamilton publicly handled the situation? He didn’t slam his helmet to the ground or throw a tantrum. He took a minute to compose himself and then he went and hugged his dad. I can’t recall being so impressed with someone after a “defeat.”

I have to admit, I don’t like Hamilton but the graceful way in which he handled this truly heart wrenching situation has certainly changed the way I see him.

Yep, and I suspect his Dad gave him some good advice in that hug abs calmed him down too.

Watched a documentary about the family and the Dad is a hell of a guy too.

Maybe the stewards, Masi, and some other people around the world just weren't ready to hand the title of greatest F1 driver in the history of the sport to Sir Lewis Carl David Hamilton MBE. Although some say he already is, one more world championship would seriously solidify that as fact.

#suspect, maybe? No one really knows.
