Ohlins rear TTX 36 shock recall - Ducati OEM supplied with bike

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

I received a recall notice via email from Ducati Australia and New Zealand for the Ohlins rear shock on my 1299S. But the Ohlins site verifies that my shock batch number was not affected.

Am I missing something here or does this really mean that Ducati ANZ want me to take my bike to the shop, probably have to leave it with them and arrange alt. trnsport, for them to then check the batch number and decide that nothing needs doing, then me have to arrange to get back to the shop and pick up my bike? Is this 'cos Ducati S.p.A. factory don't have a traceability system to be able to match the shock batch number to my bike VIN? I would find this hard to believe given that the shock is a relatively major component. Or is it because Ducati S.p.A. or Ducati ANZ can't be bothered performing the traceability work that would allow them to send the recall notice only to those who are affected? That doesn't make sense to me either since it would mean some significant waste of money on their part.

Yep...crap

not only do I have the same batch number - I have the same punch mark after the number. so this apparently means these shocks have already been fixed...?

I just called my dealer , and even though my shock number shows it needs recalled on Ohlins site - the dealer checked ducati's system and it showed it was in the clear.
so to me that shows there must be a network system . hope that helps

ok, this makes sense. if the recall started with the 1199s, then whatever stock of TTX shocks that Ducati had was likely sent back to Ohlins for repair, before they were installed into the 1299s....?

All I know is I see a punchmark, and I'm going to simply assume I am golden :)

That is what I'm thinking . my dealer says they did not remove the shock.
So I'm thinking it has been removed after assembly but before shipping, judging by the paint stripes on the bolts. and mine has the punch mark.

That makes complete sense and explains why the 1299s was not explicitly called out in the recall bulletin, so the net is if you have a 1299s don't worry about it.

I checked mine on the Ohlins site and it said that it wasn't a faulty unit so I emailed the dealer to inform of the fact but asked if I still had to take it in from a warranty perspective. They said yes, they have to check it in house to validate the recall work has been done.

My dealer is telling me that even tho my shock is one of the ones recalled it could have been fixed at the factory. They are saying it may have a dot or something that marks it was fixed anyone here of this?

Both my bikes skated from this recall. I am surprised such a big event with this, especially given the really expensive nature of the TTX shock. It's topline. That torque wrench should of been checked for CAL every shift or go through two stages of torque verification.

There's a post about the blue dot in this thread

look at the picture at the mark next to the batch number .
its a punch mark . and if you read through the posts you'll see there is some supporting evidence from slowdive2 that makes it look like this is the case .

that's probably why the 1299 isn't cited in the recall - ours were fixed before they were shipped. THANK THE LORD!

It could have been fixed before the 1299s left the Factory, that is very plausible. My point was that the recall applies to Ohlins shocks from every manufacturer. It isn't limited to Ducati or certain makes etc. Maybe they caught it before any 1299s rolled out and if so, that is great.

My only point is that people still need to look at their shock and be sure, rather than assuming it is fine because it is a 1299.

My story is similar to BRT. I received the recall email from Ducati Australia and New Zealand, and booked the bike in for the recall work. In the meantime I checked the Ohlins site to see that my shock batch number was not affected. The workshop was very good about it; they checked my shock batch number, verified that it wasn't amongst those listed by Ducati ANZ in their recall/service bulletin, recorded the recall event against my bike's VIN in their system, and sent me on my way. In and out in 10 minutes. And I'm lucky that the shop is close by my home.

I just wish Ducati S.p.A could have been able to tell from their records that my bike had an unaffected shock - that would've saved some grief/effort. I'd have been seriously annoyed if I'd had a major trek to the shop. ;)
