Oil filter jack nuts damaging oil sump

Beware of the M8 jack nuts damaging the oil sump when removing the oil filter cover. Bike has had 5 oil changes so far (every 3 track days). I noticed some metal shavings on tips of the jack nuts on the last oil change so I fashioned up some plates from some thin steel I had laying around to minimize further damage. There’s probably 1-2 mm of metal that’s been shaved. There’s probably 10-15 mm of thread left so shouldn’t be anything to worry about going forward using those plates. Not sure why Ducati uses this method when a screw cap would work let alone a screw-on filter.

Might be worth checking yours next oil change.

Will be submitting an NHTSA vehicle safety complaint.

He going straight to the top and no ....... around; he's writing his letter to Joe .....

Like most things Ducati it takes a bit of patience, subtle application and a bit of engineering sympathy to do things right….. or you could just ham fist it and complain about things made of cheese!

how exactly do you open it ?

normally people use 3 screws of bigger diameter to pull off the plastic cap.

I've done probably 15 oil changes on both bikes combined - havent managed to damage any threads.

No need to push off the cover using the bolts. Just screw in all three m8 in carefully and pull on them evenly for the cover to come out. Sometimes a little jiggling helps braking the cover loose.

Yeah, I see the problem with mine. Must be the “stupid unlimited” factor where you can design for as much as you think is possible, or probable, only to be shown that it is truly unlimited.

You've done 15 oil changes and don't know that cap is aluminum?

Seems my bike’s filter cover needs a bit more coaxing than the rest. I have to screw in the M8s to get the filter cover off about 5 mm before I can pull it off.

Pani is ironically a trust fund baby that can’t afford to keep his bikes in his own country. No way he knows how to change the oil on a Panigale. Can’t get those manicured fingernails dirty
