I commute on my Pani S several times a week country roads no traffic 15-30 miles each way depending on how much I get distracted from going to work by riding. No problems for me but slow cagers getting in the way of a good romp.

Stop and go would not be so enjoyable on any bike although my Tuono is more at ease with it than the Pani.

I loathe traffic and cities too for that matter.
 
Commute 50 exact miles every day in the Long island to NYC grind. Have been since late May... Don't go purposely into the rain, but the bike handles great when it does.

Try to rack up a couple hundy more on the weekends on some nice runs.

Splitting lanes is a way of life around here if you ride and the Pani handles it fine.

I'm not one of the guys who ....... about the heat. I ride with Kevlar jeans on my commute with the usual armor jacket, gloves, boots. Leathers on the long weekend high speed runs.

Have been stuck in some heinous traffic...heat no problem; just move my leg out of the way...my R1 put out more heat in the same conditions.

Rough roads are manageable and when the opportunity ity arises to let it rip, it makes any traffic and heat worth it.

I am getting my money's worth, and will get more when I finally get on the track next week. Finally!

Get the bike.
 
I am sure there are a lot of inconveniences owning a Duc, nut crushing, toasting buns, grumpy low speed. But the upside definitely outweights the down.

Oh yeah, guess what the downside is if bought another bike? It's a not Ducati
 
Being from Melbourne, BlueBear has got to face all seasons in one day!! I know the problem - you can leave in the morning in summer gear and ride home needing winter gear (no matter what time of year - although this year's winter has been particularly cold).

I'm from Melbourne and intend on commuting once or twice a week if this bloody bike ever turns up!!

Where are you from BlueBear? I'm up in the Dandenongs so have a scratch at my front door every commute for about 15k

I had them change to P when I picked it up. Never rode it on Flat. May even get a lighter spring (I am pretty light, around 160lb with gear, 72kg for you folks). But I've jacked up the DES and its a pretty sizable difference and I think I'm getting close to getting it dialed in to something that I find really comfortable. Gotta say, each week (day really) as I tweak it and get used to it, the commute is getting more and more comfortable.

I'm in tarneit near werrribee. I'm getting next years model after I test ride one to see if it's for me.
I test ride bikes 1st to see bikes for me but also with Australia market it might be next year b4 I try it

I'm picking up my new Triumph Tiger this w/e to commute on as I can't / don't want to commute the 75 miles a day in heavy San Fran traffic on the 1199S.
Reasons not to commute on 1199 - too much power in traffic at lower speeds. Switching to wet mode helps. In 80F temps heat gets a little uncomfortable, 90F gets very uncomfortable. My right hand goes dead after 30 mins but this is more due to old rugby injuries! Bike doesn't deserve to it in traffic in 4th gear never getting an opportunity to open up.
Reasons to commute on 1199 - thumbing the starter button in the morning - sod the neighbors, people coming up to you at work and saying "is that your Ducati?" and then thumbing the starter at end of day. And of course for me the added bonus of "tunnel revving" thru the Caldicot tune!! :D
 
Yup, doing it now, bike's all stock.

I don't know how the tires are going to be in the rain, but I've heard bad things. I'll be giving it a shot anyway.

Gas mileage sucks (relative to motorcycles), First 600 miles were around 25 mpg but is getting better, I'm up to 34 mpg.

Lowering the front sprocket to 14 really helps the low-speed traffic and I have not experienced the heat problems that some talk about, I have a 50% highway, 50% city commute in the bay area.

If that was the case I would have owned the 1198 s by now which I would regret.

Being short 5,7 my knees come up to the fairing which gave me knees bruise from slapping it cuz it sticks out, panigale is smooth which solves that.
I can deal with the heat as I'll get leather and wear thermal inside.
Last of all 1198 is a tall man's bike. Very unconfy for short arse like me. Which also panigale improved in. From what I can tell.
 
I commute with mine. I love it!!! Stop and go traffic sucks. But that isn't the fault of the bike. All stop and go traffic sucks what ever your driving....

Unless you're on a scooter.
Then again, that's what they excel at;)

Oh I forgot, scooters are also great at parking and fuel economy.
But that's not why we bought our 1199's is it?

No, HE is irritation.

If you dont like the bike, sell the f'king thing.
 
No problem here. enjoyable. Not sure about the comments about traffic because all traffic does suck no matter the vehicle. With the Pani, carefully lane split if you are in Cali. As far as low speed operations, that's what the clutch is for, like any manual transmission. I think its a matter or training and experience.
 
Oh no, not another S1000RR guy saying he doesn't like it!!

He dropped the bike off of its stand, that says enough about his opinion of bikes for me.
 
I don't commute everyday on it. But i do every so often.
Here's a guy riding it in damp conditions and doing not a lot and it
It's not doing much "below me".
