DP Tank Pads

In reply to Paddockstand,I tried a clear DP protector on my 1098 and I thought I hadn"t done a very good fitting job as it too started lifting at the edges, easy to see and more so when dirt got behind it. Bought a second one and took some precautions. When fitting made sure pad was warm and pliable,I also used a hair dryer to keep it warm and applied it so slowly that it went on a treat and gave me the look I was after all along. Spoke too soon. Within an hour it started lifting in a couple of places. Reheated and stuck back down it still lifted. I rolled the edges with wooden dowel with no luck. Absolute trash. Would never buy another one of these parts. I guess at least with the black one you cant see any lifting,I reckon they are made a bit too thick and can"t take the curves, much like my riding lol. Avoid these dp tank pads, they disappoint.

Sorry if that question have been asked before - I am currently getting down my medicinal coke for today and am soon off laying on my couch - but I plan to get that protection, especially the q part (reservoir) :

InvisiGARD® Paint Protection Kit for Ducati Superbike 1199 Panigale - Parts - Auto Trim DESIGN®

I think someone (but don't remember who - sorry) has ordered this protection, and I wanna know the brand of the film: was it 3M or another brand?

Many thanks in advance for your kind answer.

I have the 3M VentureGuard kit for the 1199 on my Tricolore. It took about 3 hours to put on and was a little fiddly in areas and has the odd air bubbles here and there. It is important to note the the air bubbles appeared AFTER the curing process. After a couple of days curing I put the DP carbon tank pad on over the InvisiGARD. Other than a very minor and slight lifting at the base of the Tank Pad it is pretty solid. I noted that this tank pad has to be installed with laser like precision. All in all I am happy with how things turned out.

I think it is wise to heed the opinions of others concerning the DP tank pad, I reckon the reason it worked out for I was due to the prior 3M VentureGuard installation.

I clean everything with a microfiber cloth and PLEXUS.

Others have posted excellent how-to-instructions concerning the 3M kit.

I ordered and have now fitted the Tankslapper kit. Was a doddle to fit and zero air bubbles so far. I just used fairy liquid/baby shampoo and water mix and it worked a treat. Didn't order the squeegy just used a credit card wetted to smoothe out the bubbles. Almost invisible.

As Tankslapper sell a series of kits for the 1199. I just wanted to clarify that I have the "1199 Panigale 3M Total Protection Kit"

Crap! I had the dealer install my carbon pad and it does lift around the bottom edges. I hope my paint is not getting all F'd up under there cause I'll be pissed! What to do now?...

I also have the Tankslapper 1199 3M kit and it is awesome! Great quality and decent price.

Has anyone installed the Avery Nano Fusion kit?

I have the Avery Nano Fusion and it's awesome.
I had it installed and the guy said it was the nicest film he has worked with.
Not knocking any others. Just passing on my opinion of what I have on mine.
I'm sure they all do a great job.

I had the Avery Nano Fusion kit installed on my Tri, the material is not as thick as 3M I believed but it seem to be much easier to install. Let one of the local shop who have been doing installation on paint protector for car. Turn out to be great, btw no dryer is required to complete the job but if given a second chance... I would try to do it myself at indoor environment for better result (avoid possible dirt trap under the film)

Thanks for all your answers.
I wanted to know about the link I gave because they got the nicest tank cut design of all, and I wanna know if their material is a good as their cut.

Thanks to all on this thread. I didn't know this stuff existed. I have bought the Tankslapper full bike kit and have installed over the weekend.

Amazing how invisible this stuff is. Only one or two tiny bubbles exist (due to my amateur hands) that you wouldn't see unless you were looking real close!

Thanks again.

Just a thought..... before sticking anything use a transfer liquid, this takes the science out of sticking anything on to your babies !!!! Allows movement, dries with no residue and you are set...... Used by the people who wrap cars etc, not just washing up liquid with water.......

Looks to be the same kit I got from tankslapper last year. It was a pain to put on with mixed results. I learned as I went but still ended up with marks and bubbles. Better than it being scratched. I am tempted to get some replacement pieces and redo some of mine. front fairing piece above the lights came out bad.

Hope you do better than I did. Some pieces look good some look crap. My poor application skills.:(

Expel Ultimate

Dude I did the same, but I use a vinyl called EXPEL ULTIMATE is much better that Vintage which is the one you use, Expel Ultimate will cured itself meaning if your bike got hit by a rock and causes a scratch on the vinyl, with Expel all you have to do is pour a warm water on top of the scratch and it will disappear before your eyes!! check it out guys!! google it. If I take a picture of my bike, there is no way you will see any difference because you will not see the vinyl, the installation was perfect, but then again it was done by a professional not me!
Chas :D
