Hi everyone first time poster and not the best of writers so i apologise in advance. I picked up my s 2 months ago and loved it from day dot as i work away 3 weeks of the month it leaves me with only a week to squeeze in some time for her. Well coming on only 300 something km after 2 months i decide to dedicate a few days to get her upto 1000 so as to have the dealer fit some goodies as per the sale deal with the first service. Second day into riding around and was able to clock upto around the 700km make before i was struck down. Sunny day thought i would go out through some back roads, riding through this town doing 50km approach a t-intercection me being on the main road. The cars in front of me were turning left so I thought I would avoid sitting behind any more traffic so I would continue going straight on. Well as i gone to ride on past the cars turning left a red yaris sitting at the give-way sign decides to drive straight out in front of me. Well lets say the bike stopped dead in its tracks and i kept going over the bonnet but not with out grazing the windscreen just slightly to land 10m up the road. Now since i left my bike to go flying and haven't seen it since i was on my back waiting for a ambo and then to the hospy. Going to go down to the towing garage to see the damage tomorrow morn, as much as Ive grown fond of her Im hoping she is a write off cause it will never be the same in my mind. Oh sorry for waffling-on apologies were made at the start. Here is a pic of the yaris where i have hit it on the front drivers side. Any thoughts on how much damage it would take to complete write off would be appreciated.

Sorry to hear about that. I feel for you as I'm sure everyone one here does. It is an unspoken question that everyone here thinks about....what is the write off point? Is this bike rebuild able?

The answer is personal. Can you ride a bike that you've seen completely ...... up in an accident? How much is the total cost?

It really depends on a lot of things:

What's your insurance like? Are they easy to work with?

If they are difficult just give them the bike and take the cash.

What's your dealer like?

I guy in my area low-sided a Tri colore at 40mph...it was a weird accident that caused the front stem/ air box to crack. The dealer called Ducati NA, explained how this shouldn't have happen insuch an accident, and Ducati paid for repairs related to that. That's an example of a good dealer.

Can you be objective and not psychologically ride a bike that was totaled and brought back? I know a guy that did something to a 1000rr that I've never seen done..(ill post pics when I get back home), on top of which is wasn't insured. Me and a aviation mechanic buddy went online, bought parts from the UK and US and rebuilt this bike for 4500 bucks....rides like new. But the owner doesn't push it hard as he thinks its going to break up like the space shuttle in the atmosphere.

In the end it's up to you.

Also you have to think of resale... Will you disclose the crash to a buyer? How much can you get for a crashed bike?

Got to the sites like rubber side up and check availability of parts...see if they'll buy the bike after you get an estimate and check which way you make more money. Also put back all the OEM parts and pull the good aftermarket stuff for sale or to put on your new bike.

Hope this helps.

Good luck, ride safe.

Damn, sorry to heat about that and hopefully you have quick and speedy recovery and are back on the road soon. From the looks of the Yaris my guess would be that the bike is totaled.

Went this morning to see the damage and it doesn't look too bad from afar but when you get a bit closer you start to see it

don't worry , it's a write of.. every little scratch needs replacing... and let me tell you it totals up like hell...

get it replaced and make sure you can buy the write off... then dismantle it ... :)

I would buy it for a project bike…… PM me. So long as the air box is not cracked.

Thanks

George Villar

On the second picture it looks like the radiator is bent from the front wheel being shoved into it. Serious front end damage and likely the airbox/steering head. Totaled.

Man, that Yaris took a hit. Moved the steering wheel to the other side.

Glad you're okay.

Yup get a new one...forget about this bike. Salvage whatever accessories you have though.

Glad you're ok!

Had a similar accident on my 1199. Cross ur fingers they total it. My stealership should have totaled my bike. This bike doesn't do wrecks. My ...... dealership in Danbury,CT gave me the bike back with bent stearing, faulty front brakes, scratched headlamps, cracked fairings, bent rim, and scratched paint on the whole bike including the display when they cleaned it after they rode it with 200 miles on the od in salty/sandy wet winter conditions. Insurance won't cover the repairs the dealership missed cause it took Danbury 6 months to fix the bike while missing everything listed above. Ducati didn't care cause Danbury sells a lot of bikes but has the worst service dep I have ever dealt with. Rant over, lesson learned; not all ducati dealerships are created equal.

Yeah I never got a good vibe from the Danbury dealership.

Bought several ducatis from Nick at Rockwell cycles. They have always been good to me. Even helped me ship a couple of bikes overseas. I've even called them from Saudi Arabia with issues and Nick stayed on the phone with me and walked me through the repair.

Good people. Go there.
