Panigale Track Day

I'm not too sure about putting my pani on the track just yet. I know it's made for it but its just so beautiful! I was thinking of buying a used gsxr 600 - 1000 to release the speed aggression I have on the track. How often have people seen others go down on the track and what was the main cause of them going down?

I have a 2011 GSXR 750 that I've converted to a track back. I find this is the perfect bike to give you a combo of speed and ease of handling. My experience is that the intermediate groups have the majority of the crashes - people that are fast but not ready for advanced thru to the squids who are too embarassed to admit to being in the begineers makes the group big with a diverse ability resulting in pile ups. Also last session of the day always sees someone running off track. Confidence is up, fatigue and tiredness are up and riders out do their abilities. I quite often forego the last session or try and use it as a warm down - practice technique not go for the fastest lap of the day.
It woud be very hard to see your Pani go down the road as a squid has just taken you out!!

:D:D:D

Looks like some people are getting infected with the track bug. I started in 2008 riding my old Hyper to the track and back.

Five years later: Enclosed trailer, generator, warmers, tents, compressor and tire-changer. Started training in late january to be fit, ordered suspension components, a huge pile of tires and am looking at a new suit.
Not to mention that I infected friends, family members, employees of mine and it keeps getting worse.

Just sayin';)

Exactly the same story here :D

In ~50-60 track days in cars I saw an ambulance go out once or twice and a tow truck/flat bed ~15 times. Compare that to one motorcycle track day in which there was one major injury (apparently the guy was riding like a maniac) and several other bikes went down, including a brand new RSV4 that looked nearly destroyed. So, tracking bikes appears to be about 10x (or more) financially and physically dangerous than tracking a car. (It's also about 10x more intense!).

I'm thinking a long the same lines as apeluv. I'll do a few more track days on the Pani, but I think buying a full-race bike that someone built up and rarely used is the way to go.

I would get a graves R6 for that purpose.

For you guys that are tracking your Pani's a lot, are you using race bodywork or just leaving it stock? If the answer is race/aftermarket, what brand has the better product?

I went with Woodcraft:

That meaty AL skid plate is replaceable (from the inside) and comes in silver or red.

GBs are cool for the track, but the fiberglass look just appears a bit on the 'unfinished' side to me for the street.

I will have to say, that looks awesome and very strong. I like!

OK I ordered the Chriscraft, I mean Woodcraft case cover, and Sharkskinz bodywork except tail. I read someone say that the Catalyst Bodywork tail is simpler than the Sharkskinz tail as it attaches directly to subframe. Can anyone confirm that the Catalyst tail utilizes the stock seat before I order that part?

Thanks,

Tom
