Panigale V4 Swingarm Position

I make that:
V4R 2019 stock position (-3) - 280mm
V4 2022 position - 278mm

Suggests to me, that the -1 position may be the same as the 22 bike.

And, maybe why I prefer my 22 so much more 😬🤷‍♂️

I find the pivot position a bit confusing. Can you orient me - which one is higher from the ground? Which position on the R is the highest?

If the R can be adjusted to the same setting as the 22, why do you still prefer the 22?

-3 std position for early bikes
+1 was a higher position giving more sa angle better for track
After 4 years or more of development the 22 on bikes are in the +1 as std along with all the other geometry changes ..

The 22 is higher, by 2mm.
I haven't measured the other R positions.

Haha, well, because I've not tried the R at -1 probably! Could never put my finger on it, the 22 was just better, faster, and more enjoyable. I thought, maybe the forks I'm using on the 22 were nicer. Or, just the 10% extra engine capacity.
But, now, I suspect, if I took the R out with swingarm at -1, my view may change 🤷‍♂️🤩

I tried +3, really didn't enjoy it. Never tried -1 or +1.

If you're moving the swingarm pivot do you need to reset the rear height to keep the cg the same? On some bike's a seemingly small change in cg transforms the handling.

And also swingarm length. As everything is eccentric, it all gets confusing/wonky very easily.

This bike is unique, in my experience. It works really well with a lot of different geometry settings (front and rear rideheights). But, swingarm position, makes massive differences. -3 to +3, completely different bike.

If, for the discussion, the 22 bike is at -1, the feeling isn't a million miles away from -3. But it really effects the bike. You can't quite put your finger on it, but the -1 (22 bike) is more confidence inspiring.

And, assuming I'm right, this kinda adds up:
2018 bike = +3
2022 bike = -1 (4mm difference)
2019 V4R = -3 (2mm diff to 22)
2023 V4R = +1

So, be interesting to see how the 23 V4R handles. I think, great on brakes and throttle, doesn't turn quite as well as the 22 bike.

Just need to wait for KarlKani to let us know!

-1 to +1 explains where the extra 2 mm wheelbase comes from between the gen 3 V4 and gen 2 V4R, respectively

Is ducati using the same rear height on the various models as delivered? Moving the mass of the motor up and down is moving the cg up and down. Has to be readily felt. Like raising/lowering the ride height both ends a couple of mm.

A friend just measured his 2018 bike, in the same way as I measured mine.

So, I reckon it tallies up like this:

2018 - 282mm
2019 V4R- 280mm
2022 - 278mm

The smaller measurement, means the pivot is closer to the subframe ie higher
