This is mine after removing the masking tape holding it tight overnight. I obviously haven’t put the side pads on yet.

Are you sure it’s meant to sit that high?
I recall it fitting a lot closer to the seat.
Still looks good [emoji106]

It's supposedly meant to work with the DP race seat, so I think Alkhater is correct. It probably mounts lower and tucks into the seat more seamlessly.
Yup. If this pic is a reference then you can see the pad is an inch or less away fro the crease between the tank and seat and it’s touching the seat, whereas SPs install looks more like 2 inches away.

I think you have the gap because you don't have the dp race seat. The race seat has more padding up front and more than likely takes up the gap you have between the seat and the extender. The height is dictated by the actual curvature profile of the extender. You put it where it “wants” to be to lay the edges and double-sided tape flat against the tank all around. If closer to the seat it doesn’t fit the tank properly. If you had one in-hand and placed it against the tank you would instantly see where it should fit.
The location is exactly where you want it while in a racing tuck. If just putting around sitting upright, there’s a small gap for your junk to stuff into…. LOL
The SP tank is aluminum, so I’m not sure how it would fit against the plastic tank, but the profile should be the same.
