Ok so I am going to throw my hat in the ring on this one. Few things first.
1. Thing about slicks. You must stay on pace. Slicks are very sensitive to tire temp. Performance relies on the fact that you maintain a good pace for wear and consistency of grip.
2. Pirelli's are my choice in tires. I myself run SC1 front and SC1 rear. However your front choice will depend how what type of feel you are looking for. SC1 tend to have a softer feel and move around under braking, where as the SC2 have a stiffer construction and have the same flex and feel as a street Pirelli Diablo but in grippy slick form.
3. Do not listen to what people are telling you to run tire pressure wise. Talk to the tire guy at the track you will be running at. Be honest with him on your skill level and pace and he can recommend a good tire pressure for you. (remember the tire pressure he is telling you is hot tire pressure).
4. Tire warmers. Get the best you can afford to buy.
5. Don't flip your tires when they become worn. Tires are WAY cheaper than bike repair or a trip to the hospital.
6. Remember have fun!!! It is not a job. (well if your sponsored, it is) but yeah remember have fun!!!
