Sorry if this was stated elsewhere... but do these bolts not come with loctite on them from the factory???

My GSX-Rs had so much loctite on them from the factory that some bolts were a PITA to get loose... So yeah, if my $20+K bike doesn't have simple loctite on bolts that bikes costing half as much do, that is just a silly design flaw by Ducati.

In the beginning, but point is, having 2 threads dedicated to bolts needing tightening? It's a motocycle, forget it's a twin, which is worse, bolts need tightening, or they get loose. in 3K miles I had one mirror bolt loosen the first week. It's just funny, not as bad, but up there with the why-rust-on-brake-disc thread :)

Example from my 1978 Z1R.

Agreed! Had to do, and still do, lots of this on my old but great BMW K1 and similarly on the 916. Lost a few fairing screws on the 1098 before becoming more diligent. Looks like I'll be checking even more items on the Pani but not a problem. This bike is worth it!!

It appears most do, and some don't have enough. So cerainly an attempt was made to loctite most if not all critical bolts/screws.

I can't speak for all the bolts, but none of the ones I removed and loctited over the weekend had anything on them from the factory (fairing bolts, reservoir bolts, every bolt under the cowl, heat shield bolts).

only bolts that had anything on them for me was the bar ends. they were a a pia to get off. everything else comes off on its own. the little black bolts under the cowl get loose very easy.

do you find that acceptable?

I think I've been conditioned to expect things like this by prior Duc ownership so it doesn't give me conniptions. Ideally, yeah, it would be nice if everything was done correctly from the get go, but I am not going to sell the bike and get something I don't like as well (HP4, R1, April.., er, Busa) just because I think Ducati should have done some things better. I think it boils down to a personal decision point for each owner and I think this is true with most things you buy that have a high desirability factor like bikes. The amount of visceral reaction or love you have for the object when you first desire it is overwhelming...you must have it. Then you get it and reality settles in a bit and you realize it has a few warts. The point at which the warts outweigh the love is different for each person so I think we are seeing some people hit the "warted out" stage at this point and they should probably sell it. I think I have said it before in another thread, but it bears repeating. If mine starts giving me a ton of trouble and ends up sitting in the shop or on the stands more than it is being ridden mine will go the way of the dinosaur as well.

Another factor is the number of visible warts prior to purchase. I got my Pani later than a lot of folks since I was waiting for the colorless version (2013). Because of that, I was already aware of the heat issue, loosening bolts, darkening fluids, ejector cowl, etc. etc. so although these warts were annoying they weren't a surprise. I think the surprise warts really erode the love of the bike much faster than the ones I already had a heads up about. :)

yes. based on your sig we can safely assume that D will only be frustrated by anyone attempting to teach it to do proper QC at factory, inadequate design issues notwithstanding.

I don't think any new issues have come out since I bought mine so that either makes me incredibly stupid for buying it knowing what I was getting into or just a rabid Ducati fanboy willing to spend his spare time tightening bolts and getting blue crap all over his hands. :)

Considering most people come to a forum with a problem, I think this bike has very few consistent-across-all-bikes issues. Other than the loose mirror screw I had, the heat (fixed), rough running low-mid (fixed), there are no issues that the majority have had. So considering a first year, new from the ground up, and basicazlly a race bike - very few real problems. Again, I am saying across the majority of bikes.

while I am one of the people who had a couple of issues I do agree with Trauma here. Forkseals just go bad or it was a bad batch....now not having the correct tool to fix this problem that is something else.

On another note I received an email from Ducati NA about the issue I had and they said they will be in contact shortly....

Which Panigale model are you riding? I have missed a thread or two.

are you asking me how many bolts are lose and/or fallen out or if my ownership in any way impacts the facts of this thread?

Vast, I am wondering the same thing. I don think you own one, do you?. All you have done so far has been to bash the bike, bitch about how any other liter bike outperforms it, how unreliable it is, design issues etc, you have taken any opportunity you have had to complain about it. Not a single constructive post. If you actually have one you should sell it right away and stop suffering. if you dont then STFU once and for all. I think you are here just to piss people off

Wait, you have a Pani? As negative as you are I figured you were an S1000RR lurker. :)

Maybe my English is not clear enough. I asked which Panigale model you are riding, nothing about bolts and nuts.
