Had the 600 mile service along with the ECU updated this weekend. Could not hear a difference in the idle speed or sound at idle. The big difference was in how smooth the bike felt starting out and that the engine also seemed to start easier than before.

I took my bike in last week for a different issue and the tech did an update which he called an "injection update". Then Ducati announced this new update and I went in today to have it updated.. turns out the "injection update" included this new one, I had it done before it was announced.. I didn't even notice a difference from before the update and after... this is a good thing. I'm going for a longer ride tomorrow, so we'll see how it behaves.

There are always kinks with any new models, if we didn't progress we'd still be riding horses (nasty creatures with a tendency to bite and kick imho, not to mention crapping all over the road or path which seems to be socially acceptable yet if you own a dog and let it did this.. whoaa.. almost started to rant there.. )

Porsche are still sorting out the engine on the 991.1 GT3 and that engine is on its third iteration now, replacing earlier engines under warranty and Im sure there are many other examples for other manufacturers.

Point is, there will always be updates, changes and progress. Sometimes its smooth, sometimes it takes a while to sort it out but Im sure Ducati will get there eventually.

I believe this update for two cylinder idle was a contingency plan built into the design of the bike . either for possible future emissions problems or for any heat related customer complaints .

so If it were me I would not sweat this update. do it or don't do it- I personally don't think it is a big deal

I agree, initially I didn't want to do the update because my bike was running fine/perfect. My tech did it before I got the chance to tell him not to.

I do notice when the bike drops 2 cyls and it still runs smooth...it tends to come and go. It doesn't bother me and I've iv' experience no different with normal or spirited riding. They must have had this planned while designing the bike and hopefully doesn't cause any long term hard.

Don't sweat it.

In regards to the new recalls, I'm going to hold off and see how some other folks have been affect. I have not experience any gas tank/cap issues and I just wanna ...... ride man lol.

The less my bike visits the shop the better, I don't even like leaving my bike there half a day lol

I had my bike returned today from the dealer, it was in for a non related issue with the ABS brake cable under the front fender, which was repaired by zip tie-ing the cable to fork, until they were able to replace it and replace the fender, certainly wasnt impressed when i saw that, but I digress.

They also performed the 2 recalls , ecu update, and gas tank plug which i specifically asked them not to perform but they insisted and did so anyways. I didn't have any issues with the gas tank, but i have the rizoma tank cap so all they had to do was the plug under the tank.

The ECU flash was either done wrong or doesn't agree with my bike because it was completely un-drivable .....if it started at all. I made the dealer delivery driver watch the entire time and had him load the bike back up and bring it back.
The bike ran rough initially and was chugging around 1 to 1.5k rpms , then stalled and would not start at all! After trying to turn it over 5-10 times it started, engine light was on with multiple errors showing on the systems function scroll with dwc, abs etc along with the usual lights on start up. When reved, the red rev limiter would come on at 4k rpms. I rode it up and down the block, once the bike hit 25mph it went into limp mode and virtually cut out until i let off the throttle. I don't know what the F@#k happened but i didn't have this problem when i gave them my bike. Had the bike 4 weeks, 1 of them at the dealer for repairs and recalls and looks like it will be another week now. Hopefully they could sort this issue out. I did notice it sounded quieter but that may be a result of the issue and not the update, that is if the update isnt the cause of the issue.

All and all, my recall and update experience did not work out so well lol.

I'm scheduled for next week (17May) hopefully my dealer experience goes well. I'm going to ride her over so if they screw it up I'm screwed (75mile ride to the dealer).

I was under the impression that the two rear cylinders cutting out when the motor gets hot at idle was already in place from the factory. Mine did it from day one and I was told by the dealership tech that it had this feature. The only problem I had was that it didn't want to start if I left it for more than a day or two . I had the update and tank done and problem solved..
