Question about dyno runs

Hello,

I have an appointment to get my bike on the dyno this Tuesday, and they asked me if I wanted to get only a HP reading, or HP and TQ. They said the dyno runs to also get TQ figures costs extra as they need to remove fairings.

Why do they need to remove fairings to get TQ readings and not for HP?

Would the HP readings be the same, or are the numbers a bit fake if you hook it up to the dyno without removing the fairings?

Is it even worth getting TQ figures? I'm doing a before and after for stock vs slip on + filter + Rapid Bike. Will I even see movements in my TQ figures? I know my car saw big changes in the TQ figures, but have never modded/dyno'd a bike before.

The dealer is closed today and tomorrow, otherwise I'd just ask them.

Yes you should get torque numbers to get the whole picture. They need to remove fairings because they need to get to a spark plug wire for rpm reading. Without that, you won't know what rpms the graph is showing which is lame imo.

They said they specifically needed to pull them if I wanted torque figures. That they could get a horsepower reading without needing to pull them. Is the RPM reading crucial for getting torque numbers but not horsepower?

Yes, you do need rpm to calculate torque;

Torque = {Force X 5252} / engine RPMs

Or T = {HP X 5252} / RPM

Where; T = torque in lb/ft and the HP is the horsepower of the engine.

Forgive my stupid question, but can one not use the on board rev counter or is it not accurate enough?
