So what is the verdict, can an R up-map work on my S Tricolore?

Playaktam, I did the usb key install as you suggested, and you are indeed correct - it loaded up the first time. Thanks much for the help. Now I need only to reload he TuneBoy cruise control and trim program. If any other forum members have the TuneBoy, is this necessary to reload (before I bother with it), or is changing the usb key something that leaves the TuneBoy programming unmolested in the ECU? Thanks to all of you for your help.

The maps are stored in the ECU, all the Up-map key does is unlock and activate the map. So using an 1199R up-map key on an 1199S does not install an 1199R map, it just unlocks the full-system map in the 1199S ECU. The only way to get a new map into the ECU (other than aftermarket reflashing) is through the DDS at the dealership where we get the new maps released by Ducati and update them as part of the service update process. There were several revisions to the OEM Termi maps over the past two years, so as long as you've had your bike in for service in recent history you should have the updated maps in your ECU already.
So the racing evo map i unlocked is the same map as the s? Or would i have unlocked the Rs map, it doesnt make sense, im no expert but im pretty sure the bike downloads something off the up-map, because why would a base ecu or s ecu have the Rs map already installed? Im not even sure if the Racing evo map between the R and S is different or not
I may have missed something, but what exactly will an R map do for a S or Tri exactly?
