Dealer stressed it wasn't the mods...it was the fact that it was track-only. His analogy was if you had a stock bike but used it as a rental...warranty voided...even though stock.

Either way...you gotta pay to play I suppose....

ahh, ic

what if you took your stock street bike, removed the front fairing stay and subframe, removed stock fairings and installed track fairings, and installed your 2nd set of wheels that have slicks mounted for a track day.

Technically, it's a street bike that was converted for a day in order to preserve your street gear, but the end result of the bike will still look the same as a track only bike, no?

Thats that I said too after it cost me $$$ to fix my engine, replace my case, crank, pistons, cylinders. When the bike runs, it's so sweet it is worth every penny i spent on it.
Still makes me cry every time i see my bank balance, but there are some droplets of tears of joy in there too.

Pretty sure it's been discussed on this forum that Ducati has looked on social media etc. to nail people that were using their bikes on track. I know Aprilia has done the same thing.

Bummed for the OP, but we can rebuild it, we have the technology. We can make it better than it was. Better, stronger, faster......

And by "we", I mean BMS. The Motocorsa guys are pretty awesome. I truly believe if they could have warrantied it, they would have.

Before we've even gotten to the repair.... 11.5 hours ($1265) just to do the engine tear-down and diagnose the problem including an hour to create a list of parts needed.... That's mine even if I have BMS do a build....

Spendy....

Edit: The above is in now way a knock on the shop...they are top-notch guys/gals who I trust and admire. Taking the bike/engine apart in a systematic professional manner gets expensive! Just sharing my trials/tribulations....

If the dealer was worth a .... they would drop most of that $1265. it seems extremely inflated and really should be waived if you have them do the repairs. IMO

I know at least one dealer that swears track time does not limit warranty they will prep the bike and encourage track time /days - very frustrating

It doesn't work that way though. The dollar dollar figures for the parts to go ducatis pocket, while the dealer still has to pay their mechanics and tools.
My dealer did ended up doing whatever they could to reduce the sundries and labor cost, which i really appreciated, but cannot expect realistically for them to waive most or all of it.
Worth asking for shop credit or something too, a win win solution even if not ideal.

Wow, I'm amazed you guys have limitations on warranty due to track use over in the States, that's crazy.

thats not always true. both insurance and warranty CAN cover it. I really think it depends on the dealerships.

dealership advertise and promote track days to their customers and they ride with them like AMS Ducati as an example.

If something goes wrong at the track, it will be covered under warranty.

please somebody name a car or bike manufacture that will honor a warranty if you used your car or bike in the track?
stop!!! dreaming those dealer that promoting track day they don't do it with ducati approve, they just going to lie to ducati if you .... up your bike at the track.
who is going pay if you put some fuel map from another company and .... the engine? ducati lol
would you pay if you were ducati?

ok. i wasnt necessarily talking about the aftermarket fuel map.

I am assuming the OP did so that is why you bring that up but I didn't see it, unless I missed it. But if he did not, your point is out of context. And yes, I know few dealers that will help to make sure Warranty cover it.

sorry but dealer don't make decision when it come to warranty a least from ducati, Ducati will look a customer history, type of bike and any modification. did you think a dealer is going to lie to the regional tech rep? a soon ducati get a warranty claim for over $2500 they will ask for picture of the bike, but a claim for over$20k the regional tech rep will be in that shop checking out the bike.if the dealer lie about the claim they get "mark" which is like loosing your word for ducati "NO BUENO" because now they can"t do claims for less than $300 with out calling ducati.

and yes the op was trying to get the bike fix under warranty.otherwise why he filed a warranty claim?

sounds like you have more experience than me and maybe had to deal with it few times.

I trashed a water pump on track, took the teeth clean off the gears and probably 5 miles from engine meltdown. Told the dealer it was on a trackday.......... replaced on warranty

What about when Ducati themselves include the track block off kit with their street marketed 'track ready' Anniversario?

Also, the dealer is the intermediary between you and Ducati; except in unusual circumstances, Ducati will honor repairs made at the advisement of the dealer and even then, I have had my dealer challenge Ducati regarding initially denied claims and they have submitted photos to convince them otherwise.

we don't we have the same warranty, but I guess with different dealers people have different experiences.
