Looking some reviews the 15 R1 is faster on the track. not a lot but is faster...
M1 and R 15 - What is your thought about it?
Why ducati let the competition take over the you tube videos and nothing about the new R...

Which one should be the best bike for 15? on the track.

Potato?

BS bench racing. Just ride. If you can ride the bike to it's 100% limit and it's slower still, then just fix it. I wouldn't talk a BMW guy out of his BMW just because a Panigale was 0.3 seconds faster in a magazine review. There's a thousand things that can give you 0.3 seconds back.

A buddy of mine memorizes every Magazine superbike shootout. He's never been on a track. Likely never will go to the track. So what's the point?

What is important is a pro racer explaining what they didn't like about the bike, not it's magazine lap time. Where they would start changing things. For example the Zx10r: Replace the soft shock and fork guts with Bitubo kit, fix the tall gearing. Boom, there's a handful of laptime right there.

The R1 was faster around one track.
And it's all subjective anyways. The 1299 has more HP, more torque and is lighter. Get the one you'll be fastest on and have the most fun on. Which could be something totally different like the H2 for example.

Magazine reviews are essentially worthless IMO. It is a self serving hype machine to sell new models. The differences in a any liter bike of the past 5-10 years is quite small. Love what you have, make it better and most importantly, become a better rider.

Here is something people don't talk about as well. They used 190 profile control tires. The R1 comes standard with 190s while the BMW and 1299 both comes with 200 profile tires. Did that make a difference? Maybe so. There is your difference in lap times right there. For a true test, let each manufacturer bring their get rider in to run the track portion. Then we will get true lap times on their choice of slicks.

Let the r1 be faster. I don't care, just like hp4 was said to be faster than my panigale. I like to see when people go past those bike without blinking on my local trackday, only to ooze and drool over my red panigale parked right next to theirs. The hurt is more when they know their bikes are actually faster/better. Those people that look, they don't know that. And the more I smile :) take that, you filthy fat heavy four bangers hah hah hah!

i would dare to say that the majority of folks who read those reviews are novices on the track (this is ok btw). For those that are more experienced track riders, I would likewise dare to say that they are not within 10% of their track record (also ok). For those who are, I would then dare to say that they cannot consistently lay down lap times that are within 0.3 seconds. This is very difficult and demands a lot of skill, talent, and setup. Oh. And one rider may be fast on one bike, and never get comfortable on another...

To be clear, my point is not to denigrate anybody... It's hopefully just to help demonstrate that magazine reviews aren't the final word in which bike is "faster".

Don't worry about what others think or magazines say. Ride what makes you happy

Ducati has the new R and just advertise the new S...that's why I don't understand...
The pros at track make laps on 1:22 with race bikes. I do 1:24:45 with my stock R.
I'm getting the new R and my point was: a lot talking about the japa R1 that I think is a ugly bike and does not do any good to me.
I wish Ducati could give me more excitement with more information on the new R.

To me it wouldn't matter if the difference was 3 seconds, the japoneez merry go round is not for me, herd mentality and all.

Well, if you are only 2 seconds a lap slower than the pros, then you are one of the few people who can benefit from all the new technology, but you will still have to dial ANY new motorcycle in to suit you and there's no guarantee you will be faster on the new R than you are on you old one, until you get the new R perfectly dialed to your style etc.

They are all close enough it doesn't really matter. Most people who get hung up on laptimes from magazine tests don't hit the track much I notice. Anyone who tracks seriously isn't running stock bike anyway. I do like the RRW track tests, since they are done by real racers and they go into great detail on their methods and conclusions. I.e., suspension adjustments, tire adjustments etc. You can pick up a few seconds just changing gearing and setting up the suspension. Most magazine tests appear to simply run the bikes on their stock settings.

Going even further, does it matter if the magazine ran one bike a half second faster than the other, if you get your ... kicked by a kid on an SV650 when you are at the track?

Just buy whatever fits your situation best or gives you the biggest boner.

A good dump?!?!

I have mine, what do you need to know?!?

I know what you mean though, it has almost been like a media blackout. Why no reviews etc?! What are they hiding was my worry, but the new R is amazing......... would like to see one up against the 1299 though.

They have always debut the R seperately. The media test is mid April. The Aprilia media test is also around the same time. Not likely that you get a real group shootout for a couple more months with all the top models of the new bikes.

Ducati is very proud of the 1299 and should be... You see a lot of push right now because it is the new bike. Let's be honest the R is going to sell, they don't need to push it... Most people whi buy the R buy it because it is a R, once the 1299 actually hits the streets im sure we will see the new R makes headlines.... Just my .02 cents
