Race Seat vs. Comfort Seat Comparison

Ok cool... that is the fattest/tallest point on the seat correct?

I am reading all these reviews of the seats.. I want to be comfy but maintain the existing height of my seat. I dont want to be sitting higher on the bike but at the same time i dont wanna be in pain.

i understand comfort isnt the design of this bike and fully accept it, but i do feel that i can tweak it a bit and still ride it track (Grippy material) as well as street (comfort).

I just did the seat on my gixxer using perforated suede and carbon looking leather. Looks great. Feels great. Grips great.

I will post pics when done. I might even have the potential of having seats custom made for members. for cheap !!!!

I find the steeper angle in the back race seat, where it shapes for the legs better suited for the bike. Between the grip of the cover @ and the flatness towards the back, it gives better bite to your legs. Yeah, you are up higher for sure, but (for me) it helps keep the weight on your feet (and as stated by anti, light in the grips). The positives (for me) make up for it. Seat only gets better with time too.

Have bad the C seat on for a week now & it works better for even though its higher. Ducabike foot pegs replaced the original gash ones.

Yes, the measurement was made at the tallest point.

oh and Anti Hero... How is the journey? Havent had time to read new posts... where are you?

In the Bay Area now....been a lot of moving around since I returned to the Pacific, but the R/R still keeps going! Since I don't really have a permanent residence (short term lease is up in 6 or so weeks), I'll be taking off again. Won't exactly be v.2--more like v. 1.2. ;)

Been behind a little on the report, though....the latest posts re: 1199 R launch are worth checking out, and there's still a lot more on the event I have to post. :)

Only one I see on HTmoto's site is a $280 Stunt seat for the Panigale. Did you send them your seat?

Not sure if he IM'd you or not. I asked of this topic once before. You have to search by manufacture. You'll see that they list the 1199 for $80. I'm very curious of the no slip material. I might have this done and sell my comfort seat.
I don't find the stock seat as dreadful as most others. So just some grip material would be fine for me. The comfort seat is too leaned forward for my taste.

I covered my stock seat in a non slip material. It is super grippy and I am not moving towards the back of the seat constantly as I did with the stocker. I wish it allowed more side to side movement. It does not absorb water either. Was 75$ to have it recovered. I can get the name of the material from the guy who did it. Did not want the additional height from the comfort and racing seat. I may still get the 'R' seat when available.

Great report antihero.

I think I'm agreeing with you in that the comfort seat is the way to go for general riding.

Agree with EVERYONE in that Ducati hoses it's customers by putting crappy seats on ALL their bikes forcing a $250 purchase right from the start. That comfort seat should have come on the bike. Thanks Ducati.

I agree with the others....I like the stock seat for the position. Same with the R seat. The latter is great for the track because you're very rarely sitting on it. But on the street it's an ass hammer. Around 1" taken out of the comfort or the race would be ideal for both street and track. Now that I've got an extra seat I might look into something custom.

I got the seat cover and installed it myself, some glue and staple gun, 1/4" staples. The cover for front seat only is $65. You can choose any color / material for each piece of the pattern, even use red stitching.

Sorry guys. Brembo install took way way longer then expected. I will be working on my seat this week. Will post pics. I am seriously contemplating redoing entire seat from a block of memory foam.

Keep y'all updated

i ripped the OEM seat and put a gelpad from Luimoto and got the cover as well. it turned out quite good and not changing the height. looks cool too and has a good grip. more comfi than the OEM. it was worth the effort and good result at the end. hope this helps. here is pic as well

not really, because there is a liner which you put right on top of the gelpad so it is pretty smooth. so far so good and those 300 mile rides are a bit easier.

For those who've made the change from stock to race seat: I'm not clear on whether the race seat is angled upward at the front, i.e., is the 'nose' of the race seat higher than stock to help keep your butt toward the rear and prevent you sliding forward? Thanks!

Yes

The race seat is awesome for the track and hanging off the bike. For long rides, not so much. For me, my ass and inner thighs start to hurt after about 30 minutes if I'm just planted there most of time. I would have to shift my butt off of it every now and then because it gets quite uncomfortable. I slowly started to get used to it, but it still gets uncomfortable after a while. Not sure if anyone else here has the same issue?

I actually enjoy it more on long rides. The stock seat had me squirming after 50 miles.

Update: spent about 4 hours on the bike today and 4 yesterday. The comfort seat is more comfortable, but I do think the race seat is a better insulator against the heat.
