So, I'd like to see if anyone keeps a logbook for trackdays and race events.

I was at NJMP this weekend, doing really well and found myself making minor suspension tweaks in between sessions, and now I've completely forgotten what changes I made, and what the difference was on the track. I googled "motorcycle racing logbook" and everything that comes up seems to be for cars.

So, if you do keep a logbook, what does it look like? What do you record?

I would like to record the essentials:
Date: Group: Session #:
- Weather
- Track Temp
- Tire Pressures F&R
- Tire Warmer Temps F&R
- Front Spring
- Front Compression Setting
- Front Rebound Setting
- Rear Spring
- Rear Compression
- Rear Rebound
- Front Sprocket
- Rear Sprocket
- Lap Times:
- L1
- L2
- L3 etc. etc.

Now I could probably make a simple excel spreadsheet and keep it running on the computer I use for my RB and BrenTuning software, but I wanted to see what others are doing, and what all you guys might be recording for each session.

As always, thanks in advance! Looking forward to the responses!

The track bike is still kaput. I'm taking it to the dealer this upcoming weekend. I had my 899 on the track this past weekend. It's fun passing liter bikes around the corners,... but dammit they keep reeling me back in on the straights! Gotta get the track bike running so I can out corner them AND out run 'em.

Sorry to hear man, hope it gets figured out. See you out at NJMP

Thanks man. When are you headed there next? Unfortunately my July is slammed. I'm hoping to get back out August 25th or the 26th with TPM. I would love to get up near you to NYST or Pocono with TPM sometime too.

this one is pretty good:

-how was sex the night before?
-did I take a good .... before the run?
-did I at least fart before I put on my leathers?

Sorry mate, you are calling for taking it to another level:D

For my bike, I mostly kept note after each heat of what the tires were before/after and any comments on any changes i made. Everything else was pretty constant (I only raced at one track)

If your racing multiple tracks a logbook comes in very handy to quickly set up for each track.

Here's what I've quickly made. Snk1199, I took your input to good use,... however the "night before" doesn't apply to us married folk.

Let me know if you guys think there should be more added. Or if you want the excel file or .pdf I'll happily email it out!!

For the records: I am married and a father of 3. You can always enter "none" or "N/A" where ever it is appropriate...

I wonder how you manage to keep record of so many items let alone checking and adjusting the setup. The track days I attend do not allow for doing much in between sessions. If I keep my suit on I prefer just sitting in the shadow. If I take the suit off I hate putting it on again all sweaty... and I have maybe 15 minutes to do other things. If I don't happen to have the spare tire on a spare wheel I can only change tire during the lunch break. Of course if you have someone to assist with the bike that you trust that is a different story.

We usually have about an hour between sessions with the group I've been doing track days with. I'm going to switch it up here soon and start riding with a different group.
I figure if I don't change anything I'll just leave the appropriate block blank. I'll only fill something out if I change a setting. The conditions section and tire temps will always be filled out as well as lap times. Also, there's always something from the session that sticks in your head as weird (strange noise, strange wobble...) for the post-session notes section.
I agree,... most of the time I am just happy to be sitting in the shade cooling down. But I also really want to learn the bike, expand my level of skill, and ultimately be a faster & safer rider.
Hopefully keeping a logbook helps, and I can always refer back to a specific setup and see if it was good or just wanky depending on the track.

Who are you riding with?
