The problem I had with those fittings is that the buttons (tabs) never seemed to budge at all.

For sure that would be easier than removing the hose though.

I couldn’t get them to release either (also tried holding the tabs in and pushing).

Push the connector toward the center of the T to remove any tension on the locking mechanism then depress the buttons and pull off.
