Radiator Guard Installation

First post here, hope I didn't break any introduction rules. If I did, I am sorry and will correct it.
Got the Evotech upper and lower guards. These pieces are very nice and factory quality and fit, indeed. They are very light, shaped to stand off the radiator's functional area completely and offering space between the crushing blow of rocks against the guard which would flex the guard onto the radiators. Hexagonal pattern gives it strength according to evotech, and made of aircraft aluminum powdercoated black. Installed in 15min, and that's being careful not to scratch or cross-thread anything. Commonwealth had the lower here in the states and moto gear had the upper. I am pretty sure there is a reduction in airflow as when blowing through the guard onto my hand, I notice the difference than without the guard in the way. I do not think it is enough to substantially hamper performance. For those at the limit riding types, maybe bare is the only way to roll for max cooling efficiency. Hope this helps.

Went for a ride with the guards installed for the first time, it was 80 ambient outside. No substantial heat rise noticed in this moderate weather, water temp went up to 198F in stop and go traffic, waiting for lights repeatedly. Not sure about the temp if one where to do a lot of stoplight racing, though, I'm easy riding it during the run-in. I like the peace of mind that having these cool looking guards bring. Hope this helps.

Just had mine put on, luckily the dealer did it at no cost as part of the purchase agreement :)

I was surprised, all of the radiator guards I have ever had in the past are just a simple zip tie to the radiator type deal. Didn't know the cox guards were such a pain in the ass. They look nice installed though, and look sturdy.

I'm really pleased with mine. For those who are curious, the engine runs at the same temperature it did prior to the installation. No difference.

Your post on installation inspired me to return my cox upper and lower guards in favor of the Evotech. So I ordered the Evotech guards online from Synmoto about a month ago, and still nothing has come. WARNING - Synmoto customer service does not exist. Not sure the retailer is even legit. Currently working with my credit card company to dispute the charge.

I can vouch for directly ordering them from Evotech. I have done that twice on two separate occasions and they showed up very quick considering I am in the states and Evotech is in the UK and very well packaged.

Did that many times, no problems, fast and reliable

Infidel

You could have put those Cox guards on by now and gotten to know and appreciate your bike that much more.

Touché and well played efna, I figured I give it some time before I broke it, and wifey doesn't appreciate time spent on my Panigale as much as I do.
I opted for the direct approach through Evotech, I'll give it a couple of months and let the new bike smell wear off before I attempt to defile it.

or if he ordered directly from the company got them took the 10 min install time and rode his bike to appreciate it much more. the more i do work on this POS bike the more i dont appreciate it. only time i like it is when im riding. 3 hour anti freeze change constantly checking bolts etc etc.

Infidel,

I understand. In the end both products do the same thing and given the overall P.I.T.A that the COX guards are to install going another route makes sense. But, for those in climates with downtime it is a good project since it opens up so many areas for inspection, cleaning, etc... For example, radiator flush, new plugs, filter changes, hose clamp checks, new front tires, brake pad changes etc...

Looks like a Cox knock-off. PIA to install.

DP now offers a guard for the lower rad for less than a hun which will take 5 minutes to install, ordered one and will let you know how it goes.

Hey bud...sorry my understanding...what is PIA to install

Ok let me know about the DP and please send me the link for the DP website.
Thanks a lot!

OMG still talking about this one. Ok all, the Evotech are so good that Ducati endorsed it and its in their 2014 accessories. Its official DP accessory. Too bad they don't make it for the late model MV F4. I went with the COX for my MV in titanium finish and they fit ok, very tight and not perfectly aligned top to bottom but they do look great in their own right and especially in that finish on my MV and did not require anything more than the side fairings to be removed. On the Duc, the Evotech are so well done it did not require taking fairings off at all, and is a perfect fit like you not believe. For the Duc go with the Evotech. For others like the MV, the COX are not a bad cup of tea either. Both are good in my opinion but not for the Panigale.

Pita

I bought those and after fiddling around for an hour got the ..... and ditched them - ordered Evotechs direct and they were fast and packed well and easy to install. I could have persevered with the others but cant see the point unless you are really one of those OCD types then its prolly "better blah blah" Evo work fine and lets face it do you really spend your time looking at the Rad grds lol

He guys I got this one from ebay today...do you think it will be a long process to install it?
Please let me know
