Hi all

I am new to the forum as i only received my Panigale Tricolore yesterday. I wanted to change the stock rear sets and i am considering either the Ducati ones or Gilles VCR38. Any views on these rear sets or other alternatives. Sorry in advance if this question has been asked before.

Cheers, Lee

Hi,

Just to give you a heads up that you have just opened a pandora's box. You will receive a million and one responses from every man and his dog.

Just google and pick the prettiest ones, otherwise you will be even more undecided than before you started this thread.

PS. I have Rizoma and love them

It has been asked (a lot) but that's cool. Here's a quick breakdown:

- many here are fans of the Rizomas, Lightech, and Ducabike rearsets
- Carpimoto has the best prices on the Rizomas that I've seen
- many switched to the Ducati Performance early on as they were one of the first out but are pricey
- Personally, I like the Gilles over most others including a set of the Ducati Performance that I took off. Wasn't a fan.
- If you prefer reverse-shifting then go with the sets that don't require an expensive addt'l reverse-shift rod such as the Gilles.
- Ducabike has blingy colors like Red and Gold if that's your thing
- Shift-tech carbon has the best deals I've seen on Gilles; great customer service and offer 10% off and free shipping to forumites
- Bellissimoto is a good source for many 1199 parts including Ducabike
- Woodcraft just came out with some rearsets too, haven't seen them but they always put out a quality product. There's a couple guys here that get wholesale pricing with them too.
- if you just want grip, don't need the adjustability, and don't want to drop a lot of money you could switch out the pegs with LSL or Rizoma pegs - Bellissimoto has them both.

What am I missing guys?

Good luck bro

It really depends on What you hope to achieve by changing rearsets.
If your happy with the stock position, the cheapest way out is to just buy pegs.
If you are chasing a look, then buy what you think looks the part.
If you want to connect to the bike better you need to buy the ones that will allow you to lock on the best, this may require forward, rear, up or down adjustments.
I guess it would also depend on your height and riding style.

The Gilles you mention allow stepless adjustment. Can go higher and lower than stock how much depends o how far back they are placed, and look pretty good, but for me I have shorter legs and think i wouls appreciate a slightly forward position so was looking at sato but bought woodcraft, purely on price and replacement parts availability.

Other than Sato and AR, I think you covered it Tri! Rizoma's are the best though...

The above advice is all good. Isn't it great to have choices!

I have just installed the DP rear sets which with no additional purchases allow
* std pattern shift or reverse pattern shift by simply using one linkage over another
* two functional positions high and not so high
* normal shift speed / sensitivity and faster shift speed / sensitivity
additionally the pegs are shorter and grippier allowing a greater lean angle before finding tarmac.
* depending on desired use you can even lock the pegs in a rigid state for race use verses the ability to bend up when you find max lean angle! ( I get excited just thinking about it)
* adjustable angle for your brake lever
* adjustable length on your gear change lever to suit your foot size
Machined out of billet aluminium they look superb with beautiful machine marks and laser etched part no's with manufacture dates on each separate component.
Class, Style, Functionality, Beauty and QUALITY second to none!

Enjoy your new bike brother!

The Best?

Here we go again. Just like everything else we discuss until we pass out, its all a matter of opinion on what people like. Going out on a limb here, but think I can honestly say I have never stated "X is the best" or anything similar on products of any sort.

That is best left to the individual to decide by providing helpful data and useful direction as some of you kindly did here. :D

* I am sure someone here will spend the time researching every post I ever made to see if that statement is true- in which case I will congratulate you and eat my words. lol

You seem to feel very strongly that gloss is the best. :D

Hi everyone, I'm here to discuss the heat issue under the panigale's seat. Is it just me or am I going crazy?

Thanks everyone!

Again, there is no heat issue, and LIGHTECT is the best. Anything else, and you are taking chances on crashing, or having the bike blow up. There are examples all over the internet of this happening, so it must be true. :)

And Jock, I have not been able to teach my dogs to post, but working on it. :D

One that no one mentioned is the Woodcraft. I have the black ones in the GP shift pattern and they work w the factory quick shifter and look amazing. Not to mention I got them for $495 to my door.

Bigjim, I'd like to get the Woodcraft rear sets but I can't find out if they come with a brake switch or if one has to be bought separately? Also did they fit up easily and where did you get yours from?

Too many questions, I know...

Thanks

I found a poll on the Rizoma website and Rizoma's were voted the best. I happen to agree. Lightechs, by the way, are the cause of the heat problem, fyi. I posted a picture here somewhere of what happens.

Ok, :D I guess I'll start using more of these :p;):D:):cool: so, that it's abundantly clear that I'm not being serious when I say something is the best. :D

You post that pic for everything! I know Woodcraft makes great products, but I would never put something made out of wood on my Pani. Maybe on my Cobalt, or a sailboat.

Rizoma

I love my Rizoma but make sure if you or shop installs it to put loctight on those bolts...... my shift arm came off my bike when riding and lost drove home stuck in 4th gear

Just wanted to add, use purple or blue. Do NOT USE RED OR GREEN! I usually use blue.

Considering some member's level of experience, I felt the need to mention that. I put a tab of blue on my shifter as well when it fell out on my first ride.

271, Red: High strength threadlocker for larger diameter hardware.
262, Red: High strength threadlocker for for hardware smaller than that which uses 271 (more like heli parts). Either does a good job for our stuff, however. I see 271 most commonly in auto parts stores.
609, Green: Retaining compound, high strength, for mounting slip fit bearings to shafts. An appropriate product for tail boxes.
603, Green: Retaining compound, high strength, similar to 609 but good where the parts may be a little oily. Good for mounting oilite bushings in housings, BTW.
640: Green: Retaining compound, high strength. Similar to 609 and 603. Lacks the oil tolerance of 603. I use it where I might have trouble with adjacent bearing contamination with the product, such as start shaft bearing blocks, since it has a little greater viscosity than 603.
638, Green, rather thick: Ultra strong retaining compound for assemblies with a marked amount of slop in the fit, min 0.004". Don't try to use this stuff for our normal bearings on healthy shafts. It sets almost immediately in the tight gap, and you'll never have the chance to get the bearing into place.
290, Green: Wicking product for thread locking AFTER assembly. Medium strength, much stronger than 242 blue in my experience. Not the correct choice per loctite for bearing mounting.
242, 243 Blue: Classic medium strength threadlocker for most of our threadlocking applications. 243 is the oil tolerant version.
222MS, Purple: Low strength threadlocker for small diameter or otherwise delicate fasteners.

Did you ever get a placement, cost?
