Another important issue here is how a person, as an individual, actually learns.
Me, I started straight on a CBR600 at age 23 with 1-weeks rider training under my belt and was fine. It helped me learn and I pushed the envelope slowly. I got better over a wonderful 6000-miles and then stepped up to an 888.
Many people would have had a problem, not being confident on a sports bike, riding position, speed etc....
Now, when I jump on a smaller bike, like a 696 Monster, I feel very confident and able to use a very high percentage of its performance.
1199, well, I feel confident enough, but it still has the ability to scare me shitless.
