So I've got a rock chip through the clearcoat and I don't know how many layers of paint (it's still red inside under the clearcoat and some pink paint as a middle layer wtf). I don't care too much because I bought the bike to ride, not to sit at Starbucks.

That being said I'm curious if anyone has experiences with paint chipping spreading or growing in size? Would be cool to know how to minimize further damage if that's even an issue? Just trying to keep my red Pani from turning pink lol.

i have a rock chip....it hasn't spread in over about 3k miles....just waxed it and left it alone..it won't be your last rock chip or your last bike....just ride it...

I have more than a dozen now on the front of my tri. Pisses me of that I didn't 3m it from new. (I did the leading edges behind my front wheel but did budget on the stones from commrades). None of the chips have deteriorated - just attracted friends! The base coat on the tri is white so the pin holes thru the red do stand out. I'll have it touched up soon and 3m it.

I used paint protection film from day two and I have zero chips. Best bet against rock chips (which happens to be a pet peeve as I'm some what of an perfectionist when it comes to things I'm passionate about).

The paint from the factory is crap. It needs all the help it can get.

Where can you purchase paint protection film for the lower panels?

I put tankslapper kit on mine from day one.
Years of owning bikes have taught me that.
I did it myself. It doesn't look the best, but what may look unpretty now would look flawless if/when I have to sell the bike someday.

I have had only one. I prefer to touch up, instead of wearing something it looks worse than what it is trying to protect from :D
Never understood car bra's either, for one.

I have the tank slapper kit on mine as well, and had it on the other bikes. XPel version, not 3M. Looks beautiful, and this stuff works. Had it on my KTM's, got roosted by dirt, and the bike looked new on the front of the fairing and headlight.
For our bikes, the leading edge of the fairings, the nose, and the lower fairing are all susceptible to a hit. If you are near VA, I will help you put the film on, it can come out great with even a little patience.

This is what I purchased: 2012 DUCATI 1199 PANIGALE Full Clear Bra Kit | ClearDefender

I have the Avery Nano Fusion. Supposed to be the most clear, long lasting and fade resistant (basically turning yellowish over time).

its been on for nearly 2 years and it looks the same as the day I applied it. Just be VERY slow and sure when applying. Make sure you clean the bike well and know that its best to over spray the area you're applying the film and also the adhesive side of the film just prior to applying. Makes it MUCH easier. Also order the applicator/squeegee thing... its a life saver.
