Rust on front rotors... But from what?

I found little bits of rust on my front rotors and the front brakes sometimes squeak when applied 85% or more. The bike has only about 120mi on it and has never seen rain. I have kept it in my living room through the worst of winter and just took it out less then two weeks ago. Again the bike has never seen rain or been wet for that matter. I don't think that humidity has a play here but im not sure. Rust and squeaky brakes are two of my worst pet peeves.

Questions are:

What do you guys think could have caused the rust?

How to get rid/prevent the rust and squeaky brakes?

It's just caused from condensation on the rotors from temp changes and or humidity in the air. No harm.

A ride and use of the brakes and it'll go away.

Maybe its one of those White 1199s. I heard they have a propensity to oxidize quickly.

Use some WD-40 on it at your own risk, will make the brakes a little slick for a minute til it wears off. Otherwise, it'll come off when you ride it.

WTF!!!!

Poking some fun at this guy is one thing but trying to kill him is something completely different.

Happens to me to, so must be a normalcy...

You do not put WD40 on a brake disk, ride the bike 10ft and the rust is gone. My car's disks always ahve rust showing if I don't drive for a few days. - but Armor All works great on tire treads. :D

Gonna put some on the GT3 RS treads tomorrow. I'll be the slickest dude around!

You see rust because rotors have iron in them. When iron interacts with water you get surface rust. So 1) don't wash your bike with water if you don't want rust and (as others have mentioned) 2) ride it more. Or just score some carbon rotors. :)

Seems like WD40 on the rotors would be an effective way to turn that rembrant in his living room into a picasso.

Hey efna .... off. If you have nothing positive to bring to the thread then dont comment at all. Get a life and try not to feel so high and mighty on a ....... online forum. I dont want to read through your sarcastic ........ so quit your commenting.

I don't find what is offensive about that posting. WD40 on disc rotors can possibly lead to fatal results. No to WD40 on rotors, don't clean your chain with it either.

I always use WD40 to clean off the sludge from my chain for years....then I use chain lube after! Never had problems with my chain....whats wrong with using WD40 on o-ring chains?
