What size safety wire is typically used in motorcycle/motorsports applications? Do you use one of the spinning pliers tools, a hog nose screwdriver or just plain plain pliers and a snipping tool?

Safety wire pliers for sure. That being said 99.9% of the commercial pliers have serrated jaws. The Aircraft Standards Book calls for smooth jaw pliers to avoid compromising the wire when gripped and I have seen these in several “old school” wire masters tool boxes. I have a long and short set that are stamped Pratt & Whitney probably from the 40s. I also have a set of Milbar TigerWave 7Ws (the Rolex of safety pliers) that I use often. That’s the correct way. That being said, any decent (not Chinese) wire pliers will work fine and you’re not getting inspected to pass anything. Proto makes a nice set as does Snap On etc.

You can get the wire at any performance shop online. It comes in various wire gauges. No need to go overboard (.026-.032). They also make Ti wire if you’re an Uber nerd like myself however it is tricky to work with vs stainless.
