School me on DSC

As it's explained DTC intervenes to mitigate rear wheel slip due to driveline backlash at the mid corner opening of throttle phase. This is what I've gathered so far.

So coming off the brakes the transmission and chain/sprockets are loaded "negatively" then when throttle is applied DTC smoothens the power delivery to promote a seamless transition to "positive" load on the driveline.

In summary...

DTC - applies mid corner
DSC - applies on corner exit

Still a bit confusing... I think mainly because if traction is broken at lean that automatically implies sliding.

Shouldn't the naming be swapped? 😂

Is one a function of the other?

Is there an overlap between them?

I now know less about the difference than when i started 🤣

Try DTC on 8 then 7 and so on, it intervenes pretty much all the time when you are on the gas which tells me that slippage/spinning occurs at lot more easily than one would think. I became aware of this when on a tire conservation exercise for touring. For normal riding I run DTC on 1 or 2 so there's no discernable intervention when getting on the gas in low gears that otherwise occurs at the higher settings.

Interesting responses, the 1299 evo had slide control and I was pretty sure I was using it as there were plenty of times when the rear felt very "loose" and started walking on exit. The reason I'm asking is to get an idea of how much you can lean on these advanced features without chucking it into the weeds.

In my experience which is limited compared to some here, you can lean on the slide control a lot as long as you have decent throttle control and the ability to maintain that and not have a micro second of panic when the rear goes. Because if you suddenly release the throttle the system doesn’t keep you from high side-ing if you slide the rear end then cut the throttle suddenly.

But as long as you stay in the throttle it will keep you from having a low side where the back end gives out on you.

So in short, it’s got you back really well if you hooligan it coming off an apex, but if you panic and cut the throttle suddenly, instead of letting the DSC gently modulate the torque for you your .......

So if you are going to use it, better to over commit than under commit 😂😂😂

Rick, have you performed these tire (tyre?) calibrations on you bike since you've changed tires/final drive?

and we are almost at the page 3 level......

Every time you change a tyre and or the gearing, and sometimes mid wear on the tyres, you should calibrate the tyres. Its a simple function. On the Eve 3 software there is even a short cut straight to the process. You select calibration, press go, run it up to 30mph and keep it constant until it says dome, job done.

I'd argue you'd be less ...... with DSC/DTC than without it... while sliding, since without DSC/DTC you'd be sliding even more.

In any case though... Agreed, suddenly shutting the throttle mid corner isn't a good idea.

Approach should be incremental to avoid surprises.

So we have to wait until page 3 for the verdict?

Am i getting this right? 😂

early days...🥸

Google slip angles............

Lol 😂 I had a feeling this would be entertaining.

Slip angle in the motor sport context refers to tire deflection/deformation when steering at speed. It applies to 4 wheeled vehicles as far as I know.

I’m sure a similar phenomena occurs on bikes but I’m also sure it’s quite irrelevant to this subject.

But I know what you mean… it’s the angle of the longitudinal axis of the bike in relation to the trajectory. Yaw angle or slip angle as you will.

Still doesn’t explain DTC vs DSC.

In basic terms, slip angle is the difference between the direction a vehicle is travelling (known as heading or course over ground) and the direction that the body of the vehicle is pointing (true heading).

and you are saying it doesn't apply to two wheeled vehicles or even more specifically DSC?

No I'm certain it does.

But apparently it also applies to DTC.

if you can get the dash into this display, you can see that the RPM is across the top at the moment.
You can scroll through this part of the display to get amongst other things, eng temp, rpm and straight to the start for the tyre calibration. saves fanning around through the menus.

Do you have Evo 3?

Who knows? The dash says racing pro and to get to calibration its scrolling to settings>tire calibration

Ok can get to that dash no probs, I use it on track but its not a shortcut to tire calibration as you still have to scroll to settings> scroll to tire calibration

If you havnt which appears the case.. then you won’t have the short cut

Ive never been able to work out which software Im running, just keep getting the upgrades at the service and last time it came out with the track evo option which gives the dash. So what youre saying is that you can scroll directly temp>revs>tire calibration>etc?

I think that’s what he’s saying.

I have Evo 3 but haven’t noticed it either.

Will confirm shortly.
