I cant find a definitive answer on this.

Id like to service my bike myself in the future. Mainly i dont have 1300 for a valve adjustment. Any way to clear these service lights without the 5000 dollar diagnostic kit?

1300 for a service is pricey. Just to check valve clearance? Its really not hard to check the clearance. Done it before on other bikes and it looks similar to my inline 4. Service manual gives pretty strait forward instructions.

I have my lights on, on my bikes. Does not disturb me.
Or, the dealer can turn it off. It's a 5 minutes job, which will likely cost you $50+
Would be nice if someone could leak the ECU CAN protocol used by the bike, so that a new DucatiDiag equivalent could be done :D

protocol says engine out of the "frames" for valve check.

for peeps who want to keep their warranty.
I'm out. i'm going DIY in 4k miles.
and then reset it with my Tuneboy software :D

I'm with Phil. Sometimes it's handy running a Ducati repair/maintenance shop. That $5000 software finally gets to see use on one of MY bikes!! :D

Ok tuneboy it is. U guys got a website?

Engine out for valve check? I thought fuel tank, subframe, radiator.

I will have to read again. I have taken an r6 down to the frame and rebuilt it. Quads also several times.

If i keep this bike that long i will need to do some of my own service work. Go broke on the maintenance.

Not quite all out for a valve check. But adjust requires further (i.e. airbox/front end). Not much left on it at that point except the swing arm.

I supposed the bike is just a motor with some stuff attached to it. LOL

Im gonna read the service manual some more. I will pay for the first two services just for the warranty factor. 319 for the first. Not sure for the second. Its gonna take me awhile to get to the second anyways.

Charlie is that roebling road in that pic?

Rode there several years back. Fun track.

Found tuneboys website easy enough. The 599 one is the deal that wipes out the service light?

Dang by the time I rent the tools and buy this thing im at a grand. hahaha

It's Roebling (no other track WERA ran at the time had tires stacked out like that).
Guessing it's T4 (or maybe T7).

Below is a pic of mine when the exhaust was being installed at Melillimoto.

I can't imagine doing the valves.

They definitely didn't need to do all that to install an exhaust. I removed nothing more than left and right fairings. That's it. Sure it will probably make it a lot easier to install doing what that dealer did but definitely not necessary.

I'm assuming the 7500mile service is just like the first service so it shouldn't be more than roughly $300ish. Could be wrong. Will be couple years before I make it to that anyway.

Full system you're saying less? I don't believe that. For a slip-on I'd agree.

Full system. I did it myself. Left n right fairing upper n lowers. Not a single thing more. I'm not the only one who has done their own install and can probably say the same. This would be one of the most petty things to lie about. I have no reason to lie.

I absolutely believe you Brother. :)

That don't look too bad.

U guys should have seen my 2006 R6R. I had the entire bike in my house in pieces. I got everything powder coated, new bearings, new tires and paint. I checked valve clearance. Put it all back together and did 2 track days on it.

I used to race atv mx too. Rebuilt my ltr450 a couple times. Did all my own work minus engine rebuilds. Had a motor guy for that.

The problem with the ducati is the tools. If i need all kinds of special tools i might as well pay them to do it.

If the motor has to come out then its worth the 1300 bucks. If thats what the charge.

Camshafts can be taken out with engine in bike. So valve clearance can indeed be adjusted.

It really doesn't look bad guys.

You remove the seat, fairings, tank and radiator. Then you expose the engine heads. You can check the clearance I believe with the cams still in the bike. If they need adjustment the cams will have to come out im sure.

Just gotta make sure the shims don't fall in the engine. That happens your screwed. LOL

Taking the engine out looks like a HUGE job. Lots of steps.

Im gonna look the bike over and see what tools I might need. I know the wheels have a proprietary bolt on them. Gotta get that for tire changes. I noticed the steering stem is a proprietary bolt as well. Not sure what else. Their either proprietary or bolts I haven't seen before.

You should worry about riding the living .... out of the bike and HOPE that you reach that glorious 15k mile mark for that big service. Until then, don't worry about it. Kind of a waste of time. Majority of owners will never get to that service and will probably end up with some other bike by then. Worry about it when you're over 10k miles.

+1...... Also having talked to a couple of Ducati Techs they say this bike will go 30K easily before needing a valve job anyway.....

agreed. Im just enjoying the heck out of the bike now. But I love to tinker with stuff and learn how it works though. Its just me. lol

But at my rate of keeping bikes this one will probably get sold or traded within a couple years. I have been thru 7 bikes since 2007. R1s, R6, GSXR 600, BMW S1000rr, zx10r. This bike is different though. Im really digging it so far. So different then anything I have rode in the past.

I just found this toolkit which i think i will be buying for adjusting chain tension and tire changes in the future. Seems very useful for general maintenance.
