Several observations

I'm sure these topics have been discussed already but I thought I would share my experiences in one thread.
First let me say this bike while not perfect and none of them are excites me in a way that defies logic! The styling, sound(although I wish it had a dry clutch) the overall ... appeal this bike has is nothing like anything else out there.
Now, the observations. I have just over 1000 miles on it and have noticed the occasional stall and difficulty restarting when hot. I live in DFW area of Texas. A strange thing for sure but probably due to the size of the piston(and flame propogation) and the leaness spoken of somewhere else here. I have also noticed a roaming yellow range in the RPM scale. Sometimes it starts at 8K sometimes 9K and once it was just between 8K and 9K then again at 10500!! Truely odd.
This one is just a nit pick but the throttle while in steady cruise is so sensitive that any bump causes a hic up in the cruise( bike surges or jumps around under the throttle hand) and tis drives me crazy. It's almost immposible to be smooth.
These are the only issues I have found and while others my show up it's fine. Let's face it, this bike is about not having what everybody else has and sometimes with exclusivity comes character. If I wanted a perfect boring bike I would have bought something from the Orient Express but I didn't. Yes it's expensive but I think there are alot of people that maybe never had a Ducati and expect perfection.
Ok my 2 cents are in. Keep the rubber side down.

Get rid of the charcoal emissions canister and the hot starting problems will be a thing of the past.
The yellow line is lower on a cold engine and moves up as engine temp increases.

The fly-by-wire throttle is a bit sensitive but then again you're riding a fire-breathing beast....get used to it :D

I know where the traction control light is and it's not that coming on. Although I have had it come.
Fireman, I'll keep my eye on the cold temp roaming yellow line and you are correct sir, it's a cruise missle to be sure!!!
STW, I'm in Richland Hills down by Fort Worth. I haven't seen another one out here yet but I'm sure some are lurking in the dark places of the world!

I'm not bitchin about the bike, just obseving. I have always bought my bikes for what they do for me not to me!

I had the hard start issue occur once a couple of weeks or so after having the bike. I don't know if the removal of the charcoal canister has anything to do with it but mine was removed when the full system was installed.

I'm with you on the sensitive throttle. This is the only reason I don't ride in 195hi on most occasions. The Termi manifolds seemed to make it even more sensitive to minor throttle inputs. I imagine if I force myself in 195hi I would just get use to it.

Re the sensitive throttle. I experience it only between 4000-6000k rpm and it is an actual surging of the throttle... Could this be the same thing? Reason I ask is at first I thought it was what you described and thought it was me actually giving input... After 3500 miles I can assure you it is a problem with the bike. I am going in tomorrow to get a list of things looked at and this is one of them.

I went back to 195 lo as I'm just not quick enough with my shifting and such to feel comfortable with the hi.

I'm on the 195 lo setting. Lardawge, I don't think I would call it a surging. We may be talking about the same thing. It only occurs at steady cruise of course and it just seems that it happens when I hit a bump or pavement junction because it is so abrupt.
Let us know what the doctor says about the throttle. I would think that if it's a sensitivity issue that the ecu could be reprogramed with a little "fuzzy logic" on the throttle inputs.

Let us know what the doctor says about the throttle.

Took it in yesterday and after a half hour of my time it is much better. The throttle response in general is slightly different through the whole range... in a good way.

It had to do with the way the throttle-by-wire communicates with the throttle bodies. The tech stated that it may be more prone to touchy throttle hitting bumps but I keep a pretty loose grip on the bars so have not noticed that.

Being able to cruise at a steady speed on the freeway is worth the price of admission.

Going on a longer ride this weekend so will report back if there is any issues.

So I thought I would report back now that I have some more miles on it. Just shy of 1700 miles and that hyper throttle response is still there and I do notice that surging that Lardawge mentioned. I was told by my DucDealer that removing the charcol can would fix this if the air lines were plugged at the cylinder heads.
I have found no loose nuts or bolts other than the one that controls my ability to ride this bike with any kind of control!!! No smoke, no burnt fairings, nothing has fallen off, it's been perfect so far in those catagories.

I have been reading all the posts about everyone's issues and I have experienced none of these. Maybe some one should start a thread and try to get a pattern by location where these problems are occuring. There has to be a statistic reader that would love to do that, it's not me.

I have removed the exhaust valve cable with no ill effect. I have done my own tail tidy with ideas gathered from here. I removed the heat shield and wrapped the rear pipe with heat wrap not so much to alter the heat issue but because I didn't like the shield and the wrap looks cool so in my limited mind it must be cooler!!! I have also noticed that the sound of this bike scares birds and small animals which makes me smile in some twisted way!!!

keep the rubber side down

I have more things popping up now in the observation list.
It has been hot (100+) here in the DFW Texas area which may or may not have anything to do with this but once the bike gets hot, say after about 20 mins of riding the right side turn signals stop working including the green blinker on the dash. If the bike cools down then they come back on.
Hard starting after hot. This has been covered else where so I will say only that this really pisses me off!! Nothing says "inexperienced rider/sport bike punk" better than an expensive superbike that won't start!! It's embarassing. The last is a stall situation when down shifting. It did it once convincingly but it has other attepmts to do the same thing but didn't. The bike kind of goes free wheeling for a moment then catches itself. It's not a high revving down shift so it is not the slipper clutch.
I'm thinking the electronics areas under the side fairings need some heat exhaust holes some where to let some air flow. The front air ducts bring it in but I don't see any exhaust. Those 2 holes on the top of the black piece between the tank and the side fairing are useless.

That is all for now.

I am glad that "free wheeling" wasn't my imagination! It just kinda revs up for a sec while downshifting, like it's saying it is not ready to slow down yet! BTW, although in STL, bought my 1199 from the folks in Richardson as I was commuting there a lot.
