Yes, lower numbers are stiffer. Compare Ducati default values in RACE, SPORT and WET modes.
Stupid question? In Default Race Mode the compression is lower than the rebound.
But here everyone's settings are the opposite>>

Street and track . I feel threads like these can be detrimental to finding what's good for you and what works.

+1, if anyone walked up to me at a track day and asked me what my suspension settings where because they're riding the same bike, I would tell them that it's irrelevant what my settings are, let's look at YOUR bike and talk about how you ride it, and we'll come up with a baseline setting for you to start with. I've seen a lot of people completely screw up their suspension trying to set it up themselves based upon garbage advice from magazines or internet. Compression and rebound damping settings are both HIGHLY dependent upon what spring rate the springs are and how much preload is on the springs, as well as the weight of the rider.

The best advice I can give to anyone is first get your preload/sag set in the ballpark, and if your spring rates are way off for your weight then spend $100 on the correct shock spring and/or $100 on the correct fork springs, it will be the best $100-$200 you could possibly spend on your bike. Set your compression and rebound damping up to the manufacturer recommended defaults, and then ONLY make changes if the bike is doing something that you don't like and you want to try to tune it out. DON'T make changes to your suspension just to try to make it "better" without knowing what "better" is. If you have access to a local shop or suspension tuner, have it set up professionally, it's worth whatever you have to pay.

+1 ^

but here is my new useless setup for 135lb rider

Ohlins FGRT 203, 9nm springs, 5mm above triple, 8mm preload, 42mm sag, -13 clicks Rebound, -12 click Compression

Ohlins TTX2, 85nm spring, +2mm shock length, 28mm sag, -15 clicks Rebound, -21 clicks Compression

I was hoping someone could help me out. my 1199R comes tonight and is set up for a 170 pounds rider. im 225-230. I plan on having the suspension professionally set up for me but the place ill be going is a couple hours away and i dont know when i can get there. can anyone recommend some suspensions settings for the ohlins fork so i can adjust them more closely to my weight. i will not be riding aggressively until the suspension is actually set up but just something that can hold me over until i get that done. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated in terms of settings

like jarel said, set the preload to get you in the correct sag range and ride the damn thing

I weigh 180+ with gear and I thought the OEM set up would be just fine.
Come to find out, sag was set way to stiff for my weight for both front and rear but should be pretty much spot on for yours.

This isnt the OEM setup its set up for a 170 pound rider. do you know what the OEM setup numbers are?

That's what I thought and that is why I left mine alone until now.
My OEM setting was way to stiff for my 180 lbs.
If all R's have the OEM set up mine had it should fit your weight a lot better than it did mine.
I can ask my suspension guy to see what he thinks the OEM set up is best suited for weight wise.

found something that works for the rear end for lighter riders

I am 135 lbs, got 9nm front springs, 85nm rear shock spring (vs 10nm & 90nm stock form). this bike is naturally more front loaded, if you are below average weight 170-180lbs, the rear end is super light. The front is less affected because 52% of the bike weight helping push down the front, while the rear shock is more rider dependent.

I shorted the shock length in the rear by about 6mm, changed the geometry to compensate for my lighter weight. Keep your preload dialed in to normal levels to maintain suspension travel. Now, the bike's no longer trying to toss me around.

Supension setup is to each's own, but thought this would provide some direction to you DIY guys.

Thanks to Dan Kyle for the pointers.

Hi all - I've been reading all of the posts, and you are all so much lighter than me. I'm 184cm, and 125kg with gear. (6'3" 260 pounds I think)...

Sounds like the stock from and rear springs are going to be way to soft....!

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance..!

I am heavier that everyone on here. I got my rear spring switched out recently. Ohlins gear came from Dan Kyle in northern cal. Most dealerships know who he is. Does a ton of suspension work on the west coast. He also did the front and rear full setups on my old R1 and I was really happy with everything he did for me,

So heavier than me (above)? What did you go for? Front and rear?

Thanks

I am about 315 lbs. Also 6'11" tall. I already got my rear spring replaced and set all of my suspension to where I think it should be. but I had 2 questions that I'm hoping the community here can help me with.

1. Do you think it's totally necessary to completely redo the suspension front and rear because of my size?

2. I ride pretty aggressively (always have) and I've never had an adjustable rear suspension. Should I be set to flat or progressive or is that not really dictated by weight, rather constant change in load, ie 2 people on the bike vs 1.

Thanks in advance for your advise

So.... I have a 1299S and I like all the settings in Sport mode but like the throttle response of Race mode.
I'd rather modify Race mode because I need Sport mode to stay as is for heavier traffic commutes. I've set the Race Mode's ABS, EBC, DWC, & DTC to mirror Sport, but not sure of the DES settings.
I'm wanting to set Race Mode's suspension settings, DES, like Sport's suspension settings.
What should my customized Race suspension, DES, settings be?
