first time changing oil here and was wondering how much of this shell oil do i put in. Some people say 3.2 and other people say 3.5. Just called the ducati shop and they are closed.

Use the oil sight window. Put in 3 quarts and then use the window to top off very slowly.

If your 12' doesn't have the window, I guess it has dipstick? Principle is the same however, 3 quarts and then slowly top off.

Yep take the lower fairing off. Sight glass is under there. Make sure the bike is level, not on the sidestand, when you check the oil level.

A '12 won't have a fairing window.

Not needed. Just take small flash/penlight to highlight between fairing and engine case (lower right just off clutch housing). Easy enough to see. And no, you don't need to remove the fairing to see it.

(a "dipstick"???) /facepalm

Before I went to work I replaced my filter with another one then threw the filter cap on and let the oil sump while I was at work, I'm home now and turns out the shop forgot to send me a washer what the ..... Do I have to get a drain plug washer specifically from Ducati or can I just half ... it and get it from autozone? Because the nearest Ducati is another state over and after working for 12 straight, tomorrow is my day off and I have to ride damnit.

The sump plug is suppose to be fitted with a small amount of sealant on the threads also, I'm sure there are people out there that religiously change the washer every time but don't do/know that....

and yes...I reuse the washer if it looks fine.

Get it from Autozone or O'Reilly or Pep Boys or Napa or........

Be warned though. If you go in and ask for a crush washer they won't know what you're talking about. Ask for a oil drain plug *gasket*.

I reuse mine by heat/quench. If that's too much trouble for you, go the Autozone route. I'd never reuse a crush washer (i.e. "oil drain plug gasket") without annealing it first though.

I just re used my washer last night, then rode at 2am and came home at about 6:30. Nice ride home watching the sunrise LOL. Slept in till about 3pm and then went riding again. I rode over 100 miles, so far so good and no leaks. I did put about 3.4 quarts in there and that window is full as ..... I put in about 3.2 in there and started it up and then the oil line was in between the full line and the low line (pretty much right in the middle of the window) so I topped it off about another .2 and now the whole window is full. Hope that's not bad.

Why would you fill beyond the full line?? Its there for a reason...

Well after 3.2 it was in the middle, so I put about another .2 to make it closer to the full mark. I checked and it was good. After riding around the whole window is full. Manual says 3.7, people say 3.2, and I ended up putting 3.4 so how bad can that be?

And what is this Allen bolt by the lower left fairing I just looked through one of the holes with a flashlight and it looks like oil is leaking through it?
