Shut off

happened again, coasting on first gear around a parking complex, engine shut off, electronics still on, fired right back up

Hasn't happened to me lately, but I'm going to ask when i take it in for service for the recalls

I have had this happen 4 times in the past week, never before that.
I did get the service recall done last week and I think they may have put in a new map at the time. The bike has about 1300miles on it.
The bike definitely feels a lot smoother after the service, but I hate sitting at a light in neutral and have the bike shut off for no reason.
Anyone else notice this?

Yeah, there's something wrong with the bike idling sometimes. Seems like an electronic/ignition/fueling/throttle (idle) issue to me.

I would think that the ECM would save a code so the dealer can scan the memory like most modern ECM's, just a thought

I was riding the other day and I was going about 35-40 mph and down shifted and the bike cut off and had to re-start. Plus that weird air sound I still have at start-up. Has anyone had this happen?

Happened to me.exactly the same thing.i called the dealer n they came to pickup the bike.u r not the only one having this problem.theres few more guys having the same problem.check with the dealer.

Happened to me - once when crossing a dual carriageway so that I was stranded in the middle and a second time when I was going down a hill with the throttle shut. On both occasions the bike took a good few goes on the starter to get it fired up again.
I mentioned this to the dealer when I took it in for the warranty work and they couldn't find any problems. Bike is a Tri with Full Termi system.

I would say more than a few more guys probably a bunch of us. Plus a dozen almost shuts off.

I've had this happen a couple of times, between 1700 and 1800 miles.

1. Coasted down a hill and into my driveway, stopped, put bike on side stand and let idle, and it cut out after may be 10 seconds.

2. From cold, rolled out of garage onto driveway, started bike, selected 1st, struggled to get back into neutral, back into 1st, rode about 2km, stopped at lights, struggled with neutral, went to pull away, and it cut out. Wouldn't start. Pushed into side of road, switched off/on. Started 1st time. Went for a run, no further issues either with gear box or cutting out.

With the selecting neutral, I suspect it was because the gearbox was cold. Temps were probably lower than 8C and the bike hadn't been out for about a week.

Hoping to go out on Sunday for a couple of hours to see if it's ok.

Here we go again.....
Guys, you will blame the messenger but there will be no fix on this.
DUCATI knows damn well that their bikes cut out unexpectedly for seemingly no reason.
I and many many others had this issue on the 1098. Mine was so bad and after bringing it into service endless times I sold it.
I promise you more then a few guys will say they came up with a fix. In the long run nothing will work. Check the Diavel forums, same thing. The longest Ducati threads are always about stalling.
Deal with it make peace with it or sell it, because for most there will never be a fix.

I had this happen on my multistrada too. The problem seemed to go away when they came out with better (less lean) fuel maps. Hopefully a future map for the panigale will correct this. That's my guess anyway.

Happened to me too.called the dealer n they came to pickup the bike next day.still in workshop.

does anyone has the answer for this problem.happened to me twice already.second time while i was coming out from junction at slow speed, engine shut down, lost my balance and fell down.bike is at dealer now.

also happened to me randomly at stop lights, more so on hot days, could be fueling issue and i hope the new fuel map help fixing this, wishful thinking!

I had the same problem on my 848, pull the clutch in (usually more frequent at lower gears like 1st or 2nd) and it goes silent but instrumentation stays on and no errors? Sometimes happens at idle. They said it was because of the lean fuel mixture.

Solution:
Engine needs to break in, the more miles... the more it goes away. Usually wont see the problem anymore after the 7,500 mile service time.
Buy a power commander and have it tuned (Or something equivalent)
Buy an exhaust system such as a Termi (Which I think is a bit ridiculous for a solution)
Or have a valve adjustment done under warranty. (Gonna take a while...)

The bike eventually had less and less of a problem with this after the engine had many miles on it. It was almost a once or twice a day problem, which turned into once a month problem. I can't say for sure that this is what is happening to all of you, but it was the same on my 848. Fortunately I haven't had the problem on my 1199. If anything I would take it back to your dealer and see if they may be able to tune your air/fuel ratio without doing a valve adjustment. Not sure if they can access the stock ECU. Hopefully this will shed some light on the matter!
