Ye DNA, DUK, and Oz are sending different letters at different times. The email I received (not a letter) talked about the sprocket and map (end of Feb) but my dealer knows nothing as of last week. Email below (note we weren't offered a discount on the sprocket)

----------------------------------

Dear ,

Your 1199 Panigale has, as well as winning your trust, won an impressive number of prizes in 2012 for its style, technology and incredible performance, making us extraordinarily proud.

In line with tradition, the development and updating of such a prestigious model never ends; we're excited ahead of the upcoming sporting season that will see the 1199 Panigale debut in the Superbike championship and renew its efforts in the Superstock championship, where the differences between your bike and the race bike are truly minimal.

This development work, which is consolidated with the launch of the 1199 Panigale R, has allowed us to obtain a series of solutions that we are pleased to make available to you from the end of February, to give you - as we do with every Ducati rider - important updates to help you make the most of the best twin sport bike of all time.

We have developed solutions to ensure an increase in mid-range power, in particular:

- a new electronic engine mapping, which also optimizes the Quick Shift system
- the chance to use a Z41 rear sprocket, to shorten the final ratio.
These innovations mean that you can experience even better performance, when riding on the track, from the Ducati Performance exhaust that you have already bought or will decide to install.

And that's not all: if you want we will fit your 1199 Panigale, free of charge, with a new heat shield on the vertical cylinder and exhaust system, to improve comfort especially in hot weather and during daily use.

We're sure that these touches will be appreciated by those, like you, that have chosen a product that is absolutely at the top of its line. We hope to meet you soon at one of the many events that bring the Ducati family together.

I got this via letter, just Friday.

So no mention of discount in your letter Trauma?

No, but as I posted earlier the chain is priced at $121, but the sprocket not yet. I am thinking these will be DP parts, that Ducati will discount list. I don't know of anyone that went to Ducati to purchase a chain pr sprocket, or if you even can until now. I will know more tomorrow when they are open.

Also, my dealer said the map was $30, where the letter said free. Maybe the map is free, but the dealers can charge to install.

PS Found a used Z41 on eBay, maybe this is what we get:

i was at the ducati-dealer last week asking for the exhaust-heat kit and the new map announced by personal email from ducati.
he was days before in bologna for technical instruction and told me to wait for the newest 1199 map, which will be available, together with the heat kit end of march in germany.

regards
karrl

We were told specifically that there will be a NEW map available to take full advantage of the 41t rear sprocket, and that map is not available yet, but will be available to download by the time the sprockets are released in mid-late April. Currently the cost showing for the chain and sprocket are $121.49 each, but those could change by the time the parts start shipping so take that only with a grain of salt. The installation of the chain and sprocket are not warranty items, and therefore you need to pay your dealer to install them. This is being offered as an optional performance upgrade for track use, based upon the development of the 1199R to be retrofitted to any other Panigale models. I think the added midrange will be good for the street too, but that's not why they did it, it's about better drive out of the turns at mid-rpms on the track. I already switched my Panigale to a 41t sprocket last year, so I'm looking forward to getting ahold of this new map for the full Termi system! If I just had better drive starting down around 6-6.5k rpm instead of 7.5k rpm it would make a HUGE difference on the corner exits, should be fun!

So bottom line, sit tight, this is still a month away so your dealers are not going to have all of the info yet.

UK = NO MAP or KIT for 41 tooth rear out yet....= APRIL is advised date

There is a new map for low / mid range BUT this is NOT for 41 tooth........

UK = NO letter NO 41 Tooth map or KIT.....

UK = Dealer will NOT fit 41 tooth..................= Messes with TC !

Thats the uk !

Hi Bronch,
The software update was released from DUCATI through the DDS in late November, but wasn't announced until early December.
So it was released at the same time:)

Regards,
Brad

Hey Brad, I specifically asked about that and I was told by 2 different dealers that there is a new "flash" for the 41T sprocket coming in April. I have the latest up-map from Nov '12. Now, I suppose they both could be mistaken, but that's all I have to go on.

I'm thankful for:

UK = Smashing pasty. :D

If you would read a couple posts, I talked to my service guy Saturday:

The new map is already at some dealers (mine) and available to load.

It takes advantage of the faster reving caused by the 41T, but will supposedly work fine with the 39T

My 14/39 is nearly identical to the 15/41

Since this is an optional change (unlike the heat shield), there is a cost:
Map: $30
Chain $121
Sprocket $??

Theres no charge for the map, right?

So it would appear that confusion still reigns on this topic... Arggghhh...

Well, there appears to be a trend. I'm going to enter it into the Enigma Machine.

Yep, it gets confusing alright.
I think inconsistant flow of information to dealers and customers is combined with differing interpretations is the problem.
Rest assured it will be all good in the long run.
It's a bit like a pizza.
Sometimes it takes longer for the same thing you always get, and there is a fair bit of variation in how it turns out. And sometimes there's shouting and abuse with lots of arm waving from within the kitchen.
But it's still all good:):)
It's the Italian way, and i personally wouldn't have it any other way as long as i live.

The information i have provided thus far has been extracted from a letter i have in PDF on my computer which is from DNA to their dealer network in the US.

It is quite detailed and is 5 pages long. They say that the ECU upgrade is a warranty item that is dated to be effective from 4/12/2012 and is from TSB-12-005. There is nothing else other than the software update number.
It is stated to be siutable for both the 41 tooth and 39 tooth sprocket.
This to me is very conclusive, and has no ambiguity about it;)

I got my notification by email from Italy on 9th Feb 2012.
Either way it doesn't worry me in the slightest as mine is running nearly perfect with the ECU upgrade as it stands.
I really can't get over the stir and confusion it is causing:)
It's extraordinary.

Regards,
brad
