Off the bat,Ducati is my favourite brand..no mistaking that.Second,I know this is a Ducati site and what bike will be the preferred choice. But for conversation sake, would like to hear some opinions.
The R Panigale is sounding like a real monster of a bike, and at 34500 it should be.
The new MV Agusta F4RR has some big improvements over last year and sounds like a real beast as well. The exclusivity of the MV brand..or at least around here is sort of cool too.
The RR can go out the door here at 28500, which seems pretty decent all things considering.I imagine when tests get done the Ducati will prove to be a fair bit faster around the track and MV development is likely to always be a half step behind. But 6k difference is alot of money for 2 very exclusive bikes. For some money is no object and that's fair enough, there is no right or wrong here. At what point though does the sanity meter on bike pricing start tipping over. What bike is the better deal? I put my deposit down for the Pani R and am happy about that..but lyin in bad last night thinking..for marginally more based on my scenario,i could keep my current pani and RSV4 and add the lower spec MV f4r model and have 3 amazing italian bikes. Just one of those things that makes go hmmmm. Either choice is a good one, but the angel and the devil on both sides of the brain were playin with me last night.

had a brutale 910 which was a terrific bike and I really enjoyed it. I had considered the new 675 mv is making but a canadian friend got one and he had loads and loads of problems with it in terms of fueling, etc. (they were on something like map #20) trying to sort the fueling.

fyi, mvagusta.net is a great resource for info.

Build quality on mvs is first rate as is overall quality of components. I will say ,the latest bikes they've got on the market seemed to have been rushed into production (even with the sweet deal they got from harley they're still in horrendous financial shape).

The lack of a dealer network for me and parts availability a nightmare (far worse than even aprilia was in the early 2000s. I'd probably never buy another one, wouldn't consider new as they depreciate worse than ducs.

IMO the Panigale looks much better. Not as bulky, clean lines and colors, no frame, LED headlights, etc etc.

The "RR"'s on the side of the MV look japanese to me, which I dont like since its Italian. If they did away with those, and had a nice solid color I think it would look much better.

I do REALLY like the F3 though, I would have bought it if it came with a slipper clutch honestly.

I would avoid the F3 as I've heard of those same fueling problems. The F4 and especially the F4rr is a killer bike. I love the MVa F4 body style as it is absolutely classic designed by Tamburini.

I would say get both. The F4rr with MotoCorse or the factory race (made by arrow) exhausts sounds killer. It's a different sound than the twin of the Ducati but just as evisceral. . .

The bike has a MM ecu and can be tuned extensively. The stock F4RR is 171hp at the wheel, with simple exhaust and headers takes it to 179hp. I believe with fueling and tuning, the rexxer guys have taken the bike to 200hp at the wheel. .

The electronics on the Panigale are one generation ahead of the MV Agusta but the new 2013 now has the electronic suspension/settings/etc. ..

Overall - I think the MV Agusta is a better looking bike. I think both of the bikes ride differently as one is a i4 and the other is a 2. The rev limit on the MV is 14000 - and it really likes to be from 10-14K. On the track - obviously the Duc is torquey and has power in more rpm in more bands. The MV just takes off from 10-13k roms.

Ride both - and if you can afford it - get both. If not, see which one moves your soul more.

as I recall the MV is also around 60 pounds heavier than the duc (I think I recall that from the road racing world test last year)

It isn't so much a choice of performance since both bikes are really quick, and on our "normal" level riding skills, the rider is the limit - not the bikes.

I'd say go for the Mv if you're a fan of the engine layout. It's definately the best looking 4 cylinder bike out there... only the panigale beats it in my book.

I think the Mv will feel alot quicker, and will give you a sensation of speed that the Duc and its vtwin can't deliver.

I'd go for the base F4, I personally think that it's an awful lot of bike for the money. I myself would pick the Ducati though, just because it's the most beautiful bike.... EVER! I actually think that it just looks perfect, and that I'll never get tired of the design. Piece of art, even if I'm not a huge fan of the V2 layout.

You know what..i was trying to figure out what it was that bothered me about it and you hit the nail on the head..the RR's graphics do look Japanese. The R model does not have those and looks much better. Good points made by all here. I can't do the RR if I keep the Pani I have now and my RSV4 Factory..but I can pull off the F4R with a bit of belt tightening. As mentioned the F4R is a ton of bike for the price and to own all 3 would be a dream of sorts. Need to sleep on it but I knee ...... a bit on my Pani R deposit, but I will be able to get it back should I decide. The R Pani is such an awesome machine and it will be fairly exclusive and a dream bike. The truth is though, I'm not at the riding level that will exploit the genious within the bike and $34500 for a bike is a schwack of dough.

As someone else pointed out - the MV is a bit heavier, but you can't really tell. It tracks corners better than the Pani, though the Pani is just a bit easier to flick around. The Pani feels like almost like a 600cc bike (at least compared to the previous gen 1098/1198).

Don't forget, you'll probably be looking to put on Bodis/MotoCorse/Arrow/MVA exhausts to complete the bike. All the F4's are excellent. The RR just gives you a little bit more than the base R - similar to the R on the 1199.

In terms of the R on the 1199 - it will not be an exclusive bike. it's not triple numbered and they'll make as many as they sell if my guess (sort of like the "limited edition tricolore".

Sounds like you have a garage with multiple bikes. I always assess the situation - if I have these 3 bikes - which bike is not going to get any seat time ? And I answer that question and sell that bike. Thats how I make that call. So between the three - make that call. Personally the RSV4 factory doesn't do it for me in that group, but thats me. . If i wanted a fourth, I'd want an EBR 1190RS or maybe the KTM RC8 but thats going to a dedicated track bike which I hate to do.

Umm not sure how it works in BC but here it's that + $799 for freight and setup fee + doc fee + GST would put you at $34,443. That's on the low scale.

Seeing as we have one dealer here now, they can ask whatever they want since they know the AB oil sand guys will pay it.

What would that be in BC with the awesome HST tax you guys have even on used bikes which is highway robbery!

No offense but I think your comment fails.

Fail Frosty...haha, I win again.
No matter what you say...I win. It's a proven fact in psychology that people that do what you do and try to get a rise on the net..do it because they have never been able to do it in person their enire life. They are almost always a person who is not able to be confrontational due to their physical stature. Usually don't do well with the ladies and are unhappy in their personal life and don't have a good job. Your easy pickins pal. If these things were not you..you wouldn't be the way you are...negative and a keyboard tough guy. You don't contribute anything to the forums, so basically a waste that needs to be a bad ... behind his computer.I know your not..and I'm smarter than you and probably way more successful in every facet of my life. Here's where I beat you again. I'm scrollin past everyone of your posts from here on out and not having a second look. What's the point..you have nothing good to say. I know you're reading this so adios amigo,I'll save my time for the positive folks on the forums. Too easy.....

Fails huge, like always..haha. $34500 out the door is price in AB

Just some food for thought. I have a buddy who is sales manager at very successful Ducati dealer, and they dropped MV because they were not getting reimbursed for warranty work in a timely manner,if at all.

Was this recent ? I haven't heard anything recently, but before they were going through the HD merger due to finances there were definitely some issues. During HD and after HD - I haven't heard anything.

Nobody in the industry quotes OTD prices because there's too much variance by Province and State. That's why they always quote the MSRP. Do you add $5,000 onto the list price of a car Ontario because that's what insurance is going to cost you? No you don't. And as I stated in another thread, you can buy a bike from ANY dealership in the country and they will gladly ship it to you, so why anyone would pay MORE than MSRP for anything is just stupidity.

I always love it when people go out of their way to claim they are smarter than someone else when they haven't figured out basic grammar usage in their primary language. I can't take people seriously when they can barely spell.

I have contributed a lot to this forum in the early days, but after the core information has come and gone, then regurgitated crap follows in posts (especially when incorrect information added along, like you quoting "pricing".) I have no problem pointing out people's mistakes, I have a rather high attention to detail.

I'm quite successful thank you very much. 27 making 6 figures, married a hot lawyer, I could quit my career and we'd be more than okay with one income.

Does she have a hot sister you can introduce me to and is she a lawyer also???:D

Hahaha she does have a hot sister but she's more of a hands on kind of girl, massage therapist. She has a stoner boyfriend already. Think my wife got all the brains between the two. :D

We'll see, it's a win win situation no matter what. I love what I have currently, so anything in addition is just a bonus.Gonna try to look at the MV's this week and going to talk to my Ducati dealership further tomorrow.

this is what I did I got a base 1199 with abs and a MV Agusta F4R at my riding lever I don't need an 1199r or F4RR the base model is just as good as the top model, most of the people the jump on the R wagon is just for bragging just to the Ducati fanatic because the average person don't know the different from a base model and a R. and please don't tell is for racing.
