What does it exactly mean to safety wire the exhaust valve? I plan on keeping the stock cans but just wanted to free up that valve and install and ESE healtech eliminator. Ive been searching forever but cant find exactly what it means to "safety wire" the valve open. How does one do this? Anyone? 2020 V4 base btw

the valve may close under load.
if want to keep things from moving you tie it.
you are not really asking how? ;)

By that you disconnect the cables from the exhaust valve. And use stainless steel wire which is commonly used for aircraft and racing vehicles to secure bolts in place by twisting said wire.

Or you send the pipe to me, I cut it up, remove the cats and valve tab on valve axis.
plus you improve the sound and prettying of the pipe.
Save the $ for the healtech, since the bike thinks the valve is still there.

Forgive my lack of knowledge, but is there no return spring on the valve like the 899 has?

There is.
But fixing it is always a good idea.

the x99 series had a center axis butterfly, with potentially higher risk of self closing, but also a stronger spring.

the V4 has lateral tab off the axis and a relatively weak spring

I have a mint OEM 2020+ PV4 exhaust muffler assembly sitting somewhere in the shop in a bag so it doesn’t get dusty
If it’s worth something to someone who wants to avoid down time, I’ll send it to the butcher, @Phl. Then he can send it to you and you can swap all at once and be back on the road within a couple of hours

I ended up going for a WSBK replica exhaust for my V4. I love the way it sounds.
I’m sure Phl’s most aggressive mod will sound great too and it’ll cost 1/8 - 1/4 what these insanely priced Duc exhausts go for. Good luck!

buy a PHL Ti oil drain plug too and renew yer oil while it’s on the operating table. There’s even holes for safety wire
