Speeding Ticket - I Won!

I'm from the UK and got stopped in Georgia (In a Car though) whilst on Vacation over Christmas. It was $700 and I had to pay it. The state of GA also imposes a 'Super Speeder' additional fine of $200. Fortunately for me because I am from the UK they could not enforce the additional $200 because I do not have a US license.

I do however feel that $700 on its own is a lot and I have to say It certainly has had the desired effect. I will not be speeding in GA again.

Va also has a superspeeder law. You had to have been going pretty hefty to get the ticket you got. You just have to pick your places to do it.

Curious tho, in the UK they have speed cameras every 50 feet on EVERY road so it seems. What would've been the consequences if you'd done the same offense in UK? Loss of license? I'm sure the fine would've been as hefty or more.

You paid $700 here in GA? Wow. Never heard of a ticket that high before. Where did it happen?

Let me guess - some local traffic court judge saw your UK license and figured they could run the deck on you without you being able to really contest it.

Tifton cop or ga state patrol?

They threw the book at you since you were a tourist I'm guessing, hell 95 mph is not that far over what the average speed is on I-85 around atlanta.

95mph just trying to get off the Exit, Tifton GA, the thing is I drove all the way from Miami and was sticking to the speed limit +or-10mph. My Satnav said my exit was coming up so just skipped up briefly to that speed to not miss the gap in the traffic to get the exit! He got me on the bridge some laser device.

In the UK the fixed cameras that are not digital don't always have film in them so when they are full they have to be empties manually. On the Motorway (Highway to you guys) they are genarally only active on the Gantries over the road if they are displaying a speed restriction!!

This is a small country as you know and everyone knows where they are and adjust their speed accordingly. The mobile cameras are fair game!!

I got stopped by an unmarked Police Motorcycle for doing 124mph and got of with a severe finger wagging and some educational words. You can loose your license here for that and end up with a jail sentance if I riding like a complete .... It was my lucky day I suppose.

Ah, mystery solved. South Georgia along I-75. Deliberately setup to extract maximum value from unsuspecting tourists (be they Yankees from the North or Suspicious Foreigners from overseas). They know you're not from around there, won't show up in court to contest it, don't have a cousin named Billy Bob in the state government who can fix things, etc. Corruption on a vast scale.

I spend time in Georgia around Marietta and travel 75/85/20 south to the other side of Atlanta..and I cannot believe how many cops I see on that journey..Mainly Sate troopers in those ugly brown/orange Dodge Chargers.... I also got pulled over (in my car) on 285 for doing 70.... Pathetic....

WTF is a "super speeder" fine ??

NOLA

That's nothing. Who cares about the money? Here you get slapped with a reckless that is a criminal misdemeanor (not a moving violation) and it stays on your record forever if you can't wiggle your way out of it.

And there you exactly explain my point.

"paying tickets without even considering pursuing a perfectly legal defense"

Why would I pursue a legal defense"¦I DID IT !"¦WTF"¦At what point do people admit doing dumb .... ?

Did I hit a nerve with the lib-tard thing Honolulu ?"¦lol

NOLA

You're good at over-simplifying things-that must make your life so simple. And I've stopped allowing simple people to hit any nerve.

70 on I285?? They ticketed you for going too slow! :) No one drives 70 on 285.
