I totaled my 1199s ('14) last September and am planning to buy a new one.
Now, V4 sp will be released soon...

Personally I like metal wheels over carbon ones but man... the rattling sound from the dry clutch is so attractive.

You may be entirely too late to get an SP, there are not many coming to the USA and they may already be spoken for.

But I agree with Swan, unless you want the livery, go with a S and mod it yourself.

I went with the V4 S.

The SP looks nice in matte black but...its a heavy tax for a lot of bolt on stuff.

On taxes, since we are north of the $30k USD price, taxes are not insignificant anymore. If you're required to pay personal property taxes every year, a higher MSRP will hit you every year. Same with insurance. That higher MSRP will hit you every time you pay for insurance.

While the value and cost there is left on the buyer/owner and their finances, I think that money would be better off on going to a good riding school.

I’ve got an in-coming V4SP. Should be here sometime next month. It will be interesting to see what the insurance is. My V2 insurance was higher than a V4S. Makes no sense to me.

V2 more than v4? That makes absolutely no sense. Smaller displacement and prolly doesn’t say super bike on the title. Or did it?

CS is prolly right tho I could see those averages being entered into a program (along with his personal info) and it spitting out a number

It may be higher because the V2 has a higher theft rate. Or more V2's have crashed than V4S's. It could also be that more V2's have been sold than the V4S and the V2 had more insurance reports.

The rattling sound of the clutch is only cool for like the first month of having the bike. After that it’s nothing but annoying AF. I will likely go back to a wet setup.

My dealer informed me that delivery of the V4SP is delayed until June! I shouldn't be surprised given all that's going on in the world right now. However, I'm really bummed since I already sold my V2, and I'm concerned June could turn into July or even later...
One option would be to cancel my SP order and go with a 21 V4S. They have one in stock and another on the way so that the wait would be minimal. I was excited about the SP, but the uncertainty has put me off a bit, and I'm furious at myself for selling the V2 before taking delivery of a new bike.

MSRP doesn't have much (if any) to do with insurance rates. In 2017, My 2007 ($4k-$5kish) cbr600 was $480 every 6 months while my 2013 1199 was only $550 and my brand new dragster was $600. Your zip code plays a role in insurance costs and theft rate plays a part in the different price between models.

Your situation is not typical. I’m no subject matter expert, but msrp normally has a significant impact on insurance cost. If you’re carrying comprehensive (i.e. full coverage), then msrp impacts replacement value, which is reflected in more expensive insurance. Generally, an insurance company isn’t gonna charge the same to ensure a $5,000 and a $50,000 vehicle.
