How difficult (or easy) is it to change battery?

Easy. Hardest part is getting the fairing off. Panel slides forward.

-pay attention to what screw goes where on the fairing mid panel
-slide forward gently
-it's ok if you snap the top hook of the fairing, there's 4 screws nearby anyways.
-attach battery charger leads to battery cables, mine is right under the tightening bolt
-plug in charger
-remove negative terminal, wrap in a rag or rubber something
-remove positive, wrap in rubber something and electrical tape.
-gently remove battery

This way your ECM stays powered up the entire time. No loss of maps. Make sure you have a decent charger that can output clean power without a battery attached to it. Some chargers spaz out when the battery is removed from them and can spike electronics.

The Kohler 6amp float charger is my favorite.


This charger should be the same thing.

-put in new battery
-seal battery terminals with Napa Battery Terminal Sealant (spray can). Should dry nicely like clearcoat, not stay wet.
