Stumble at 5000 RPM

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

I had the exact same thing happening to me. It was a faulty quick shifter.
They changed it and it never happened again.

I only have just the Rapid Bike Racing module. I was under the impression that it is quick shifter "ready" and the quick shifter is an additional option. Is there a quick shift function or hook up that I'm not aware of causing this?

Call RB and ask them. They have great tech support. They will ask you to check your connections again, etc. Then they'll recommend a setting change. I don't recall what it was anymore. This was several years ago so I'm not sure if this is relevant anymore... Good luck.

Update:

So I disconnected the Rapid Bike and the bike had no issues reving. Contacted Yaman and he said that we would try a firm ware update. So I hooked the Rapid Bike back up, and the issue was gone, even before the update. He remoted in and we did the update anyway, because he said that should keep it from happening again. He also indicated that there have been a few where this has happened and Rapid Bike has no real explanation why. Anyway, hopefully the firm ware update will prevent it from happening again.

I have Rapid Bike Evo and have a stumble at 4000 rpm 3rd gear

I have sort of the same problem on my 2016 Ducati 1299. I have Rapid Bike EVO and have a near stall at 4000 rpm 3rd gear. I did not have this problem before having the local Rapid Bike dealer install the unit. I have had 600 miles for Rapid Bike to get it's tune right, but at 4000 rpm usually in 3rd gear the engine feels like it's going to die.
I have an Arrow cat eliminator exhaust.

My general comment on Rapid Bike is that I haven't noticed any increase in performance. The bike still has jerky throttle response, high engine braking even with EBC set to 3, and now it has this scary "near stall" at 4000 rpm. I've also noticed a decrease in performance over stock when accelerating from a stop (i.e. I have to slip the clutch more). I can't say it was worth the money. I would recommend that other people try some different vendor's ECU modification for the 1299. I'm open to suggestions.

EBC at 3? I believe that's maximum engine braking. Try 1.

My issue was not really like a stall. It was more like it was bouncing off the rev limiter. I only have around 130 miles on the RB but it seems to be smoothing out the power.

I've read the manual and played with the EBC settings. 3 is the least engine braking. I can definitely feel more engine braking in 1, which jives with the manual.

Just picked up a 2013 1199R. It has this issue as well. Feels like it's bouncing off the rev limiter at 5k RPM's. Ridden the bike twice now. Did it both times at intermittent times. Bike does have Rapidbike, full Avi exhaust. Was doing it bad. After pulling over, turning the bike off for a few minutes. Must have re set something. Didn't do it again for the rest of the ride.

BUMMER!

I rode into work today and noticed a fairly significant stumble exactly at 5000 RPM. It happened when I was cruising about 70 mph and slowly rolled on the gas (maybe 15% to 20% throttle). As soon as I touch 5000 RPM it starts to buck. I pulled in the clutch and rev'd it and again it stumbles and never goes over 6000 RPM. Its not a little cough or sputter but a "holy .... this thing is gonna buck me off" stumble. A few miles later everything was fine. Could accelerate normally. This has happened one other time but it was just once and couldn't be duplicated. This morning I did it about 4 times right in a row. After those 4 times then the bike behaved normally.

So what are your thoughts?

Mods:
Rapidbike Race
SAS block off plates
Cored stock cans
MWR Air filter

Bike was in Sport mode with 195 HI (all other sport settings stock). Engine temp was 153 F, ambient was 46 F.

I recently changed the thermostat housing, switched to SAMCO hoses, put Engine ice in, added the SAS plates, and *changed spark plugs*. Spark plugs are stock NGK replacements. Same heat range/ratings. Nothing fancy. Prior to performing this work the bike had run really nicely with the Rapidbike, cans, and filter. It seems this stumble may be related to something with the work I just did.

Personally I'm suspicious of the plug wires. Maybe a coil.

Mine has done it since day one... Had ECU Throttle bodies and even throttle replaced NO difference They cannot fix it.. It is an intermediate problem Just happens every onec in a while but when it does it is very aggravating and sometimes very dangerous depending on the timing of the episode..
You may just have to "get used to it" as they say .. Although you NEVER REALLY get used to it (at least I never have)!!.... It is a shame that The Ducati organization/ factory will not acknowledge this is an issue.. Those of us that have the problems are really pissed taht we paid so much money for a "premium" bike and it runs like ......

Speedy

The flapper valve was causing my stumble

Where is this "Flapper Valve" ? have my Rapidbike on the way back to Yamen for a update, but will wire this Flapper open as well....

Thanks in advance....

For the record my flapper valve was mechanically disconnected. I did not have it safety wired open.
