subframe heat/rear cylinder covers

Anyone who's removed the covers also have to change their bolts because a) the bolts go through the plastic covers and through the cam covers and b) they have a different finsh, i.e. black not metal?

looks very nice! how's the heat compared to before you removed the covers?

Don't know, as I never rode my 1199 and my 1299 with those covers.

But the heat you feel most is basically radiation heat, which is not coming from the cylinder head, it's coming from the exhaust pipe.

As I'm riding with full leather gear anyway all time, it's no issue for me.

Yes, there are some bolts which need to be changed after removing the covers as they have integrated treads, different length or a pin instead of torx head (cylinder cover bolts) to get the original look like until end 2012.

You can order them at the dealer, no problem.

well, I just added subframe covers today. Everything seems to make incremental differences. It hit 99 degrees today, and sitting at stoplights was NOT uncomfortable. Sweaty, yes, but feeling like something is going to burn, nope.

Last step is to get the ECU reflash up and running.

I installed Shift-Tech CF last Sunday and have not ride long enough in traffics yet. I took lots of pictures and will post them "how to". when I have a chance. I also live in TX and believe me we r in triple digits here since last month and the worst yet has to come end of this month and early Sept

Looking forward for pics. Is it the Shift-tech Sub Frame covers?

My 2012 never came with covers on the heads. Thats how the bike was originally designed. It was an option to get them retrofitted but I think they look ugly so did not get it done. I have always thought the majority of heat comes from the exhaust. I think putting those covers on the heads must make the engine run hotter. And did I mention they are ugly. My 2 cents.

Look what I did today.

I haven't done that since getting the R........... I'm working away at the minute, but as soon as I'm home I am definitely taking them off!

FYI, you're missing a bolt on the top right corner of the vertical head's smog/air injection plate cover.

Yes thanks, i am looking for a replacement to match the other one. For time being I have put the black bolt back with the spacer that used to take the plastic.
