Yeah Eurosports would be closer. The guys at Ferracci are all laid back and you can shoot the .... with Mr. Ferracci and listen to his race stories. Infinite knowledge in his skull.

We'll have to get together and ride this spring.

The 44teeth review is very good. It compares the 1299 with the equivalent bikes, and more importantly the 1199

I read somewhere that the 3-axis IMU of the 2015 Panigale will be upgraded to the 6-axis IMU (ala 2015 R1) sometime mid-year.

I don't think the IMU of the R1 is better than whats on the Pani.. below is quoted from the Yamaha EU website on the R1M page..

"The 6-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) offers controllability over traction, slides, front wheel lift, braking and launches. Its Communication Control Unit with GPS enables viewing of lap times and other running data on an Android-based tablet - and the R1M's Electronic Racing Suspension (ERS) system is designed to optimise race track performance."

Traction and slides are handled through DTC, front wheel lift through DWC, braking through the new cornering ABS. As far as launch control goes, I don't remember anyone here really seeing that as something that has been hugely missed by Ducati. Running data is monitored by the DDA and GPS units. So I don't see where Ducati is falling short.

Moreover, the R1 doesn't mention anything explicitly about lean angle sensors which Ducati has introduced in the 2015 lineup. Also the auto blipper is a massive addition to the package.

I feel that 2015 buyers are in good hands for atleast 2 years if not less.

Has some great features, but watching the track vid, there still reving the hell out of it, so IMO won't add much for track addicts but has to be some good improvements for the street

I agree. It is even more oversquare than the 1199, so it stands to reason that most of the power is still in the upper third of the rev range. The extra 85cc's will add some oomph to the mid range, but probably not as much as expected. You still need to rev the piss out of it to make real power.

Correcting the mid-range dip on the 1199 was never more than a gearing/tuning issue anyway. It was easily remedied with a 41 or 42 tooth rear sprocket and a TuneBoy or Rapid Bike module.

We know it's possible to reduce the head angle to (I think) 24 degrees from 24.5 on the 1199. I wonder if it would be possible to adapt the 1199 to drop the swingarm pivot 4mm as on the 1299 as well? That's more interesting to me than a big bore kit.

Didnt the 1199R have that kit? I may be mistaken but it may already be a Ducati add on.

Stollen from the web, but yeah the 1199r has a 4 position adjustable swingarm pivot. So it's not really new for it. There is a member here who just did it to his 1199s at EDR. Don't remember his username, but he posted pics of his trackbike recently.

.

Everything on the r1 is lean angle sensitive. The traction control, slide control, linked ABS , wheelie control. The electronics look to be the best on it but unless your a pro you probably won't notice much of a difference between it and the 1299.

I thought it did. So it shoud be easy to get the same 4mm drop he's looking for. Thanks Shaka

Yeah, if you don't want to buy the new model and just want the chassis geometry change, it shouldn't be a problem. Also having 4 positions could be an advantage for a race bike if you were really competent with suspension. If someone were to play around with software like MotoSPEC you could probably simulate each position and figure out which one works best from a theoretical standpoint with a given tire. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea given the way a single sided swingarm has more funkiness when you change sprockets and chain length.

This quote was interesting from that article

Interestingly, Ducati has tweaked its traction control system to account for the 1299’s power characteristics, but not updated the system’s hardware or function by joining it to the IMU and using lean angle information. This is, essentially, the same traction control system the manufacturer has had for years.

Yeah that is interesting. I just assumed they would have had the IMU integrated with the traction control, wheelie control and ABS.
