Surviving The Tail Of The Dragon

Help Support Ducati Forum:

i saw a really troubling yet beautiful documentary on extreme sports recently...it kinda put things into sharper focus for me....

allow me to explain so you're no longer puzzled: you post vids entitled BEAST MODE and HOW TO SURVIVE and then you vid yourself riding not too smoothly, not too wisely, too fast [on public roads] and you cross the double yellows. if you can't comprehend the feedback you're getting, then there's not much more i nor anyone else can add....again, i dont think many of us up in here are trying to hurt your feelings, even if the words come off as harsh...

Only joke here is your riding ;-)

No one here can offend me, and very little feedback here further opens my eyes to anything I don't already know or experienced...but thanks.

In other words, save your breaths...just enjoy the show

some advice, you and Gill should try to make babies...if you haven't already tried. Take care bro, find somewhere else to linger.

Hey man, don't take it personal. I am not speaking for him, but he was just offering up some advice.

I'm not saying you have to agree with him or anyone else, but no need to make it personal. Feel free to disagree and move on, or Report the post and let me take care of it for you.

I've been subscribed to this thread since you posted it because the Tail of the Dragon is one road high up on my To Do list. I'd like to do it both on a motorcycle and a car. Hopefully, sooner than later.

Don't let what go? That we care about your safety and the others on the road... I can't let this go seeing you continually posting dumb "seDUCATIve" videos riding like a squid. Sorry.

Not gonna flame you about your vids, you obviously love the sport, your bike and riding at least as much as the rest of us.

More track time would be highly beneficial for your cornering technique and body positioning.
Thought the boys were a bit harsh, went back and watched some of your previous footage to confirm what I noticed on the last one: You're in the wrong gear most of the time, turn in too soon, have to pick it up and turn in a 2nd time, get on the gas too late and a gear too high which makes you go wide and cause your ass puckering moments.

Look further ahead, a gear lower and you'll do fine.

Cheers

looking further ahead is my biggest challenge on the dragon, not only are half the turns blind, but you also have that cliff in the back of you head lol.

I experimented with gearing a little and it takes time to figure it out, especially on a twin....the most experienced rider would take a lap or 2 to figure out what gear works best...I've acknowledged this before.

In regards to my approach to some of the bends, I now realize riding the Dragon that is has every different type or bend and twist there is :). The basic "outside inside outside" wont get you threw and until you study where to use that or hug the line or double apex or decreasing radious...its gonna be a not so smooth 1st ride.

You must understand guys, this is not just you basic twisties...more technical that any track most of ya have been on.

Riding this thing too slow can also be a killer, you need momentum (proper speed/gear) to pull you out of the curves and up into the transition to the next.

Sorry, just though id share my crappy first Dragon Ride with the family....bashing is useless as I didn't brag about killing the dragon or even riding it well...I am aware, my eyes are open...calm down lil lads. :)

Nobody attacked you man...:) just some observations from your fellow riders... We all can learn from every ride we take and never be afraid to ask or accept help or input...Ride safe and stay within those yellows...Please...

Was not meant as bashing, none us crawled out of our mom an expert.

You did good by sharing the vids. Maybe we hurt your pride a little but when the pain will have subsided you'll take what's useful in our friendly advice, apply it to your riding and go from there.

Didn't watch yet but Duc maybe a lil defensive cuz he got flamed for "beast mode" I think maybe the forum was a lil harsh, but here they r offering up some useful tidbits this go around. I look forward to watching. I appreciate you putting yourself out there. Just remember 40 % of the people will always disagree 40 % will always agree. 20% undecided. But no one's an expert.

Where did the other 10% go?

Not a huge fan of Deals Gap tho I've ridden it a few dozen times in since 98.

Here is my all time favorite vid of the gap run. This guy is a brilliant rider. Yellow wolf at one time offered a video service where he'd follow you or lead you and vid your ride. Sportbike guys are amazed by this guys skills. He's lucky enough to live in the area.

Also, fyi, he had a lot of suspension work done on this wing, but having owned a couple wings I can appreciate what this guy does with one!

yellow wolf almost looks slo-mo holding perfect lines beautifully done! and on one heavy big ass bike too....very impressive.

Yellow Wolf on his GL1800 at The Tail of the Dragon from Deals Gap.wmv - YouTube

Yellow Wolf is back BTW.

He did an Iron Butt through the Gap (back and forth). The association would not acknowledge it, but I think that's super impressive.
