Question for you guys with tank slapper kits. Where did you get them from and how much did they cost?

Hey DucSyd,

How long did it take you to do the bike with the Tankslapper kit? I got the full 3M one about 5 weeks ago and the bike arrived yesterday. Put a 170Ks on it today. I spoke to the owner of Tankslapper for about 20 mins this morning and he said he has done 4 Pannies himself and they take him about 2 hours each time. He reckoned I'd be better off doing it in stages rather than attempting the whole bike in one hit. How'd you go?

I also didn't get the squeegee thingy so its off to Bunnings I guess to see what I can find. Any suggestions or advice for the rest of us who haven't got there yet would be apprecieated.

Here you go mate...This is from Paddockstand

I did the whole bike, execpt the three tank pieces, in 2-3 hours. But i've applied these kits before. A few tips to make it easier.

1. Clean the bike throughly.
2. Use menthilated spirit and a lint free polishing cloth to remove any wax from the areas that will be covered in film.
3. Use a few drops of Johnsons baby bath in a water spray bottle as the wetting solution. Don't use washing up liquid or other detergent.
4. Start with the easy bits. The two knee sections, the top of the tail, the two pieces near the foot pegs and the top of the front faring are flat and give you some practice before you start the curved sections. Leave the sides of the tail section, the sides of the tank and the front edges of the faring until last.
5. Wet your fingers with the solution before doing anthing or you'll get finger prints in the glue on the back of the film. Keep your fingers wet at all times.
6. Wet the area of the bike where you're going to apply the film. Put plenty on, the film should slide about freely when applied.
7. Wet the sticky side of the film as you peel it off the backing and then put it straight on the area to which its going to be applied, before it attracts any dirt. It won't stick to itself if you wet it as you're peeling it off. Take care not to get the backing wet before you peel the film off though or it won't peel off and you'll have a big mess.
8. Apply the film and get it in exactly the right place.
9. Wet the top suface of the film.
10. Use the small rubber squeegee block (should be included in the kit) to start working the water out from under the film. For flat sections work from the middle of the film section towards the edges. Apply more solution to the top of the film if the squeegee is not sliding freely. If it gets too dry you'll damage the film and it will have an orange peel finish.
11. For tougher shaped sections, you need to get part of the film anchored down by expelling the water with the squeege and then use wet fingers to pull the film into shape before removing more of the water from underneath, working away from the section you anchored.
12. Some bits look like they'll never conform to the curves, but they will if you keep them wet and pull the film into shape before expelling the water. You might need to re-wet the surface and squeegee again if they lift after a few minutes. Lift the film and put some more solution underneath if its not going well.

Ok, I did it in one go, couldn't stop myself. Wallaroo has it pretty right. Just take your time. It took me probably around 3 hours. Make sure you use Johnson's baby shampoo, nothing else. I had a small water spay bottle from buntings and put about 10 drops in, it was perfect.
I started with e easy bits first to practice and tackled the hard ones ( nose cone) last. I clean with an alchol first then put a maguires polish on. Make sure you spray the bike and then remove the piece and spray it, you can then just move it around into place. I brought the yellow ploy squeegee from tankslapper and glad I did it is great.

For the parts that need persuasion I used a heat gun and very carefully gave it some heat and it's simply shrunk into place then I finished with the squeegee.

I did such a great Job my mate wants me to do his 1098R now.

Again patience, and practice.

Also note. There is two kits. The tankslapper one has a combination of 3m film, tankslappers own film and some Matt pieces for the front carbon Matt guard on the S.you can see it on the web site.

The tankslapper film is removable and can be put on and off when you want. Unfortunately when I took mine in for a service they used a high pressure cleaner and blew them off. They went back on but never quite right, so I reordered the 3m pieces that I needed. 3m film is permanent but can be removed with a heat gun but are then destroyed. These tankslapper guys are great, the guy they I communicated with was Lucas.

As for the Rad guard I brought some nice mesh from Autobarn, cut out the shape in paper, then fitted it myself. The top slides up under the two flaps near the triple clamp then I had two cable ties fitted by the dealer at the first service while it was stripped getting the Termis on. Same for the bottom, but I used tie wire. Looks very Proffesional and cost me about $25

As for the tank pad, the guys at my dealer put my Ducati DP pad over the tankslapper film and it lifted, even though I said not to. Tankslapper sent me a replacement. I brought the carbon guard off EBay from USA it is much better then the Ducati one, excellent quality. I then simply trimmed the tankslapper tank film to suit, perfect.

Went for another ride today, what a machine! Drew a crowd everywhere but a lot of ......s wanting to put it down especially when they compare to a jap (cost) and Beemer ( power), I silence them when I tell them I had a S1000Rr and raced a Honda CBR 1000.

Anybody in Syd get updates on an ETA??
All those who recently (last week or two) took delivery show their hands? Could you also indicate order date and where from?
