anyone already installed / tested them?
i found this one here on the net:
Tank cover Ducati 1199 Panigale

but decided i give it a shot my self. reason is, weekend rides are often with the wife, she loves it, but struggles to hold on to the tank.

so i thought, some duct tape, paly doh and fiberglass... let's go...
the first attempt in fiberglassing ever worked, but not so well:

so the second attempt with the wanted features and some kevlar on the sides (prone to surface contact)
refinement and paint will follow tomorrow.
i know the "ears are not a thing of beauty, but form follows function in this case ;)

Phil,
I'm wondering if that cover could potentially scratch the tank?

Instead, you could buy some gaffer's tape (not duct tape, you can buy this on amazon) and cover the tank if you want protection from scratching. Or you can get the tankslapper film kit, which is what I have. The nice thing about the gaffers tape is it sticks well, good protection but doesn't leave all the gooey residue of duct tape.

BUT, it's a pretty impressive effort I've got to say!

EDIT; I reread your post. Why is she holding on to the tank and not your waist?

Got the full tankslapper. But will also use your recommended tape! Thanks!

She can't hold on to me as I'm too round and slick like the tank ;)

Ha, great minds I was going to look them up as being a good solution. that or velcro! :)

also, Phil here's a link to the gaffers tape. re: using with tank slapper set, if GE film probably ok but if tankslapper film the tape will pull it right off.

wow Phil "round and slick", I'm not sure I'm entirely comfortable with that visual! ;)

I commend the work, very impressive, but would not the following have been an easier option?

You can purchase Pillion Handles that are mounted securely on the bike's Gas Cap...

Nice work Phil.

I'll receive my damaged 1199S ABS in a couple of days. It's for the tracks only. The tank is damaged quite a bit, so I have ordered a tank cover from Moto Vision. I'll post a rewiev.

A friend of mine put on a tank cover to protect the nice aluminium tank. He just covered the tank with duct tape before installing the cover. Works fine.

By the way, in case anyone is curious, I am using the Flamingo Corsa tank cover (linked in the original post).
Have been using it for the last 7-8 months, and went through one lowside in November 2014.
It now sports a rash on the Ducati tank sticker part, but I'll sand and repaint it at some point soon (haven't got around to doing it).

Totally saved the tank (it didn't get a single chip/blemish/scratch).

I did wrap the tank with masking tapes and top it off with ducttape to add extra layer. And I stick microfibre cloth (old used ones) to the inside of the cover for extra peace of mind. Seems to work perfectly so far.
