technical troubleshooting riding in the wet

Hi guys,

I acquired a ducati 1199s MY2013 recently. The previous owner only rode it in the dry.

As I use this bike as a commute vehicle, I ride it 24/7/365, regardless of the weather. As I rode my bike in the wet a few days in a row, I started to notice that my gear indicator would fail, indicating wrong gears, starting with Neutral being indicated as 1 and 2 being indicated as neutral. Besides this, the throttle would cut and surge intermittently while holding the throttle in the same position.

Has anybody encountered a similar problem before, and, if so, what has been done to solve this?

thank you guys for any feedback!

Common issue with failing gear position sensor. Replace with new one. Should resolve weird idle issues as well

I have issues in the wet also, no gear position errors (near new sensor, unrelated failure). Same symptoms, spluttering and surging. I've not been able to find the issue despite pulling everything that I could think of apart, cleaning/tensioning pins/inoxing connectors.

To me, it feels like it's drinking water through the airbox.

I'm at the point of buying another bike to ride when it rains.
