If you are a Car nut and love high performance Porsches especially, you will know the name Chris Harris; he just bought a 1299S and is GUSHING about it...

Maybe he might do one of his superb videos about it?

I always thought his videos were ..... All he does is spin the tires.

Spinning tires is paying for his Porsches and Ferraris. And apparently just paid for his Pani.

He does actually race when he is serious.

If Porsche could sell the Cayman GT4 for about $60k US I don't see why anyone would consider anything else, although the new M4 is pretty darn good

I'm sorta partial to....

After helping out wrench at some vintage races for a buddy, he corralled a ride for me in a 962 with John Morton at the wheel. I've never had that much fun going around Willow Springs...200+ down the back straight...Christ, I just realized that was 22 years ago!:D

The base model caymen is about that now with decent options. The BMW does everything pretty good. The GT4 does one thing excellent

$86,400 for the GT4
65,000ish for the M4

You cant get either for MSRP however the GT4 is pretty well equipped near $90k, the M4...well prepare to spend.

That's why I keep the twin turbo FD RX-7 - does just about everything those cars do (370 rwhp, 2800 lbs) for about 1/4 the cost, and it's more unique

Wouldnt go that far, :) I had one a while ago, dont remember it being that good.

Nothing good about those rotary motors.

Far as those prices mentioned above, that's IF you can even buy a stripped down version. Most cars sold typically come with options. My RC-F is priced at 63k to start. Good luck finding one for less than $73k. Just doesn't come stripped down. You can easily add between 5-10k for those vehicles mentioned above.

There is considerale ignorance about rotaries, especially people who haven't actually owned or worked on them, but the primary advanatge is the extreme compactness of the engine and it's power to weight, which rivals a two stroke. The motor is extremely simple and proved itself in endurance racing before it was banned, seen as an unfair advantage vs. pistons. The biggest issue (aside from poor fuel economy) with the rotary is heat and combustion chamber temps - those issues can now be managed with water injection and/or E85.

Agreed, the RX-7 is one of the best cars ever produced. The RX8 was a disaster.

I will admit my ignorance regarding deep detail about how a rotary works (beyond a general knowledge), but the RX7 is a pretty nice ride, if you want to spend some cash getting it there. Guy I know bought one from an overseas auction with like 5000 miles (4792 of them likely on the rev limiter) from Japan. He dropped $30k or so into it, after the steal purchase price, and it could pretty much be a Fast and Furious car.

I wouldn't call the RX-8 a disaster, just not as powerful as the 7. Has a much better chassis and one of the best feeling six speeds that is not an S2000. The motor was smooth as butter too; you could put a glass of wine on top of it and rev to 9000 with it not even moving an inch.

definitely rare. FDs are pretty cars. Just try to find a twin-turbo version for sale, and you soon discover how difficult they are to obtain.

When I lived overseas, I had an R32 Skyline GT-R. It took over $100k to get it completely restored and to a reliable 700whp. It was a fun car but I think the experience/obsession got me over cars. Bikes are a much higher level of adrenaline, requires more skill out of me, and are just simply a more immersive experience...at a fraction of the cost.

Chris Harris initially struck me as a ....... If Jeremy Clarkson is an oaf, at least he's witty and outright hilarious. But ...... or not, I do watch Chris Harris videos fairly regularly, so he can't be all that bad :p

I think we all can agree on that - cars, even something as good as the Cayman GT4, will never match the experience

Believe the Cayman GT4 is sold out before it started shipping, even for those fortunate to afford a $90k sports car with limited practicality - used Cayman S might be a better bet ('08 or later to avoid RMS issue)

We in Australia get killed by government taxes for sports cars, I recently sold my 2008 Cayman S, cost $152K brand new, the current GT4 Cayman is going for $190K out of the dealer, I almost cry when I see the prices the rest of the world is paying for these beautiful cars.

Cheers
