Think I'm going to pull the trigger on the R

very similar position and i am leaning towards not getting one as the differentiation between an S model is so little.

IMHO the 1199R is an R model in badge only.

Best of luck with the decision.

And the tri and s differential was paint, carbon and slip ons...

Ti rods alone are a great upgrade

damn, isn't that like a $10k swing between the two zaster?

&& RSR, go for it man! You'll have us to keep you company when the wifey banishes you to the garage for a month.... remember, they can only stay mad for so long.

We're all already somewhat in an exclusive group, so I guess you R guys are going to be our big dogs.

Same here...my local dealer has two coming. I'm on the fence between a heavily discounted 2012 S or the 2013 R :D

Sometimes things can be over-thought in life. If enough "practical, pragmatic" thought was applied to any of these types of purchases likely none of us would own a Ducati let alone an 1199. We can justify buying just about anything and on the same token, we can talk ourselves outta buying just about anything too. If its something we'll see enjoyment out of and doesn't hurt anyone else, the latter seems like a waste of time IMO.

I think it's great for RSR to pull the trigger on something he enjoys. Some of my best decisions in life were based on gut and impulse. Good on you bro.

Yes ti rods are good for a track bike but i will have to dump the electronic suspension so i think a base model makes a better proposition once i sort out the suspension and upgrade the exhaust to a full system such austin racing with an upmap and i will still be thousands of dollars better off.

Sure it wont have the R badge but i think this particular model is an R model in badge only and it is purely a marketing exercise from ducati.

BTW i am not knocking your choice as i am still on the fence regarding taking my delivery but at the moment the head is ruling the heart.

Like when I actually pulled the trigger for my 996 RSR from the Flying Lizard Race Team. I was soooo in the garage for that one! But I raced my ... off!!! I am such and adrenalin junky:D

Ya know in the thousnads of miles I have ridden (ok, just under 2 thousand), if I had a nickel for everytime I thought to myself, "damn, I wish these friggin' rods under me going 10,000 rpms were Ti", I would have a lot of nickels. Plus, I read somewhere that they do a tremondous job of absorbing all the heat, so it never escapes the engine, therefore not burning your ....

That's why I have so much confidence in the Bayliss at high rpms. Not worried about seeing one launch itself through the cases. Love that bike!

Bayliss 1098R doesn't have the aluminum stripe...the 1198R does. (even though the 1098r is actually an 1198 :D)

Yea I know, when I was looking, that was the one I fell for - before the Pani was announced. So cool that it was the "face of things to come" so to speak. The current R is quite a disappointment considering that one. But Ducati needed those RPMs, and had to name it something.

just hit the mega millions jackpot in nyc

I just hit the lotto!!!!!!! I'm buying all you punks R's type your names and address one per person so no funny stuff and free lessons from troy bayliss yep I bought him...

very much in this camp....and i also agree with Antihero....sell that S to a private party, there aren't that many used ones for sale, especially good examples of them (read non-blinged out).

have fun with your new R!

I'm sorry, but is this thread about people that carry, and ride an R? :D

Like thiS?!

Jay....I don't even want to know where you found that or why you are even looking at that stuff...(you German or something ;)?)

Wait a minute! I am German and never looked at this stuff. Are Germans known for SM? If so, I never knew.

When I win the state lottery, I will buy an R just for a track bike.

Damm have to win that lottery first though. :(

RSR's comment last night had me rolling for a good 10-15 minutes. I can't really explain it, but there's something to it.

trigger pulled!! R in coming ~ April.

my flawless S with 3700 miles full termi and various carbon bits officially up for grabs

make me an offer I can't refuse :D...I will officially post it f/s in the classifieds tonight
