Does DP make a carbon fiber ball gag? Where's Jay when you need him..

Why buy an R, the engine is the same. Next year the new R will have all carbonbodywork, and the next will have 10 more hp. It doesnt stop. You bought an S that is one hell of an incredible bike, that some dream of having. If you must have the R on the side fairing then go with it, but you are going to pay atleast 10k + more for it. You would be lucky if the dealer gave you 17k. The R is a bargin only if you dont have an S.

Engine not the same

Why get it?

Because I want to.

The R on the body work is too small to see so I'm going to replace it with one giant R that covers the entire fairing and lights up in neon blue ground effects with red borders. Then everyone will know I have an R as I must have a R on the side!!

I don't think money enters into his decision - kinda like all of us (that actually bought the bike) money didn't matter. We wanted the Panigale.

I know why RSR is buying it because he can. He is obviously wealthy. Nothing wrong with that. He probably works hard.
Since the Pani S he has purchased a 1098R and also a Multistrada. So he has the cash.

If I had the cash I would like to buy an R as a track bike. But I have to win the lottery first.

Remember envy is a sin. I am sure if we are honest with ourselves those of us who can only afford one bike are a little jealous of those who have a huge list of bikes in their signature block.;)

apart from the cash

there is no reason not to buy the R.. will there be better R's in the future? Let's all hope so...

however you turn it, the current R is the best base to build from. any improvements in the future will be closer to get to from this base.

as to geometrics, all Panis already carry the rigth stuff and measurements. so future R's will not change that much on that level. Which was not the case for the 1198 vs 1198R..

do not underestimate the 'final and full' cost of upgrading a bike to that level. so , even i f i'll drop about everything on the R to replace it with something racier, those racier parts, i'll be able to sell. So will be no heavy net cost. All money spent on bringing the engine up to R spec , will be lost and much more expensive then we all think. With the risk that it in not done to factory spec or attention. At least for those between us that do not have a top mechanic's skills. And the Warranty will go a long way, but not if you do that to the bike..

what can we expect to be improved : airflow under the tank, tank shape to get closer to the RS to get it breath better? somehting a bit closer to the RS exhaust?
well, were do you take a bike at this level? not to 250bhp? and not to 155kg so...

so all in all, why not buy an R?

No Its a fact that most wealthy people work very little. They either inherited all their money, have many others working for them making very little, or they won the lotto. Thats fact right off the internet! :p

If i was rich, i would buy stupid .... all the time just because i could! No Different than Mark Cuban (Owner of the Mavericks) buying a 90k Bottle of wine to drink at a club one night, Because he can!

He guys, don't sell ourselves short - owning even one 19/22/27K bike is a pretty exclusive club. And I am sure we all know someone richer than anyone here (i.e., August Bush IV is a neighbor, not close, but a neighbor :) ), or the Russian billionaire with the 1.5B yacht anchored in NY.

PS - BTW, RSR doesn't post likes he's rich, I have more of a problem where people work into their post their perceived net worth...:)

Now you get into the problem of operationally defining "wealthy". You have a bike that cost as much as several used cars so a lot of folks think you are probably doing ok. Then again, if you shook Mark Cuban awake tomorrow morning and told him that you are trading bank accounts and salaries there is a good chance he would jump out the window to his death. It's all a matter of perspective.

True - I always tell people you have to be happy with what you have, or you will never be happy. And don't forget, this is the internet, you can be as rich as you want!!!
