How many of you can honestly say you can feel the difference in a gallon of gas in your tank? That is how much weight they are talking about saving. How about going on a diet, or checking the weight of your riding gear.

Well I just put an order in so we'll see what delivery time is like.

It's closer to almost 2 gallons of gas, and if you ride track or race you absolutely can feel that. I always put just enough gas in my racebike to get me back to the pit after the race. Of course, gas flops around as you go through corners, so I suspect 11-12 pounds of gas probably has more of an affect than static weight.

One of the links I looked at showed a 4lb saving. I get that some folks can feel the difference (but I honestly doubt if many amateurs can feel more than what is in their head). But for competitive racing I can understand that you find weight savings wherever you can and it all adds up.

Oh could have been, thought I saw something like 11 pounds on the link I read. If it's the higher number, add in a lightweight battery, exhaust etc plus taking off all the street stuff and you can drop 20-25 pounds off the bike pretty easy in race trim. That probably doesn't seem like much, but it's hard work hustling a bike fast around a track. Kinda like dropping a 25 pound dumbbell at the gym.

Now is it going to suddenly make me an AMA champion, or hell, even a local club champion.........probably not.:D

Update from CDT

I have just received an email from the supplier in the UK regarding this part. CDT have confirmed to him that this subframe is for track/race use only. As such I can assume from this that it will only fit the race tail bodywork, which differs from the stock set up, as per a road bike.

Website of the distributor has just changed. New images uploaded. Its now more apparent how the subframe looks. Drool away!!!

Here is a snapshot from the page. Kope you reading this?!!!

Just when I thought I have finished the 1199 mods a long time ago .. this pops up.

I love the CDT gloss on my 1098, however I was disappointed with the quality of the CDT satin for the 1199 (and yes I do have CDT on my bike). Several CDT satin parts I had to return due to really bad manufacturing and was amazed that one of my suppliers shipped it. Probably just unlucky.

Technically and visually I still personally believe that Ducati Corse Factory (for 1098/998) while really expensive is the best, then DP (1199) and then it is Carbonvanni. Just my personal experiences of dealing with various carbon manufacturers.

However, many put Shift-Tech right up there in terms of quality and excellent customer service.

Just order the satin finished subframe from CDT. I wanted to know what happened after you returned their products. Did they replace the subframe? Was it more of a finishing problem, or did you feel the whole product was compromised?

Thanks.

for a price that is a bargain. I remember BST's releasing something similar for monsters and costs a packing 5k. the only question though is how good the quality

Agreed, perhaps for casual riders like me I will not feel the difference but for top level racing that weight savings is a lot. perhaps this product is targeted for racers or serious track day enthusiasts

Hmm, I wonder if Kope will buy one of these! :)

I'm guessing you'll need some additional hardware as well as the subframe, as clearly the mounting points for the tail section, light etc will be different to a stock subframe, which means you'll probably need to factor in more expense if you want one of these. Gulp!

Kope is done buying for a while :)
He needs to get riding that thing decently first :)
so budget is now going to tyres, tracktime and some decent tuition and follow up. Get to grips with the data and learn from that..

this said. everything that has to do with weight reduction could end up in a 2015 'shed weight program' :)

but then i truly wonder if you can see all of Ducati shifting weight backwards ( factory bikes Tank and subframe WSBK and EVO) how wise it would be to take another 2,5 kgs off that back.. lloading the front even more.. sounds like it goes against what Corse is learning ...

I agree. My only concern would be, how do you think the carbon would hold up over time with it getting hot and cold and hot and cold? Is it possible that it might become brittle? Just a thought I guess. None the less it is a very cool piece and I wouldn't mind buying one.

It's a bargain for an 11.9 lb loss in weight--and though a failure would be highly unlikely, the image of a failure at speed, involving shards of carbon fiber and a spinning rear wheel that would suck a rider and the most vulnerable parts of his anatomy into a very painful vortex, is something that would always worry me no matter how unlikely it is!
